Biography
Where have all the flowers gone?

Well, Alexia Melnychuk is right here in the heart of Canada's prairies.

Alexia found herself profoundly drawn to music at an early age, the songs and songwriters, the paper and pen and has stayed true to this first great love of song writing. She has been performing professionally for the past 13 years and it shows. She delivers beautifully written songs performed with intimacy and skill, in a voice that is as sophisticated and accessible as the music she writes.

Her most recent project, titled Hey Little Love, is a collection of ten original songs funded by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. The moods range from wistful to whimsical, with a lonely Wurlitzer and laughing banjo, to playful piano and some serious gypsy fiddle. She’ll make you smile then break your heart, but she’ll always set you upright again.

“She is a poet... Anne's Song is so simple and so beautiful,
...a classic” - Katherine Duncan, CBC Radio

“Hey Little Love is professional playfulness... Songs that touch us in a common familiarity are wonderful treasures. To keep a kite in the air you gotta' have a strong wind and a good hold on the string, keep flying that thing Alexia Melnychuck.”
- Pam Edgar Co-host of Songwriter's Circle  - CHLY - Nanaimo BC

Realizing that success is as much about hard work as it is about the product, Alexia teamed up with fellow singer songwriter, the lovely Lara Yule Singh to tour nationally and promote her first recording, Flying Machine. In 2007 they booked, promoted and performed well over 100 shows together, including a 6-week Cross Canada Tour. To date she has sold 1700 copies of the EP.

Flying Machine received regular radio play nationally (independent and college) including CBC and CKUA, and earned accolades for the writing from organizations across Western Canada including The West Coast Songwriters Association.

A couple of Alexia’s co-writes have garnered some attention as well. A Latin style pop song titled ‘Indiscreet’ landed on the fan website for Top Italian Model Bianca Balti and ‘Hey Mister’ was recorded as a demo by Canadian Alt Country artist Kirsten Jones.

Alexia’s plans for promoting Hey Little Love will be focused primarily on Alberta for 2009. She is currently rehearsing a new show with jazz guitarist and instructor Don Ehert. (Alberta College).
