Artist Information Biography Following up their critically acclaimed 2006 album, “Free Alongside Ship” has proven to be no easy task, but the members of West Hollywood-based avant-pop band Shitting Glitter have expatiated upon their ‘angst meets kitsch’ theme to incorporate a broader palette of sounds and styles, all the while retaining their perceived political prowess and sense of social activism. Take the current single, “Socially Activist,” with its menacing, hypnotic introduction that breaks into a growling guitar and droning drumbeats. The ironic lyrics suggest placing a premium on apathy, in a time when young people are coming of age in a hyper-political world of bloggers, protestors, and talking points. Experimenting with a new approach, the band has already released four songs from their forthcoming third album, “Open For Business,” as a suite of digital downloads. Two more suites of four songs will be released, along with some exclusive bonus tracks, culminating in the issuance of the complete 12-track album on CD sometime in 2009. After releasing a dance-inspired EP of remixes (Solar City’s club mix of “Slut Buffet” receiving considerable attention), remakes, and rarities entitled “Sidesaddle Sweet Talk,” the band began recording sessions at Seamonster Sounds in Malibu with producer Hoagie Hill (Seattle's Naught, Mia Boyle, Congo Norvell, L.A.'s infamous Blue Daisies, Orchestra of Excited Strings). Adding in live drums, piano, percussion, layers of vocals, and several sessions of all-out musical cacophony created by a group of the band’s non-musician friends, the band has supplemented it’s original sound considerably, leaving behind labels like “80’s” and “electroclash” hastily slapped on the band’s previous releases. Always open to working in a variety of genres, the tracks “Legalese” and “I’m A Vampire (Featuring Rich N. Famous)” find the band in more rock-oriented territory than ever before, and the lush, orchestral “The Collection” includes an instrumental coda that is haunting in it’s simplicity. “Open For Business” Suite I is now available online at www.shittingglitter.com; the band’s catalog is available from Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, and worldwide from iTunes.
