Artist Information Biography A true child of the '80s, The Wavos have followed a twisting path all the way back to their powerpop-with-synth new wave roots. Originally making a big noise as The Privates, at CBGB and other classic New York venues, founding members Joe, Anthony and Gordon continued collaborating in various combinations and with other players, as The Bitter Boys, The Hellbenders, Rubberlegs, *V*I*R*G*O*, and R.U.B. Sifting through a wealth of influences and styles from metallic powerpop and alternative rock to electronica, punk and gothic industrial, and back to new wave, they have always put the SONG front and center. Hailing from New York, New Jersey and the Carolinas, Wavos members Joe Bace, Gordon Smith and Anthony Maulella established firm roots in the NYC rock music scene of the 80's and 90's. Under different band names, they played frequently at famed rock club CBGBs, on the same bill with acts such as They Might be Giants, Raging Slab, Masters of Reality, Johnny Thunders and others. As powerpop quartet The Privates, they were the house band at Great Gildersleeves, where they headlined regularly and also opened up for the Bush Tetras, Eric Johnson and Joe Perry, and were featured in national publications Billboard and Variety and local papers like the The Village Voice. Joe and Anthony played in 90's trio The Hellbenders, piquing the interest of Bruce Springsteen's longtime personal assistant, Terry Magovern. Gordon and Anthony have performed for the past four years as Rubberlegs, an electro duo that has garnered success with two CD releases, live shows at CBGB, Sullivan Hall, Crash Mansion, The Knitting Factory and Arlene's Grocery, and tour dates in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Now reunited with Joe as The Wavos, they are unstoppable, pumping out new recordings and pounding the east coast with electrifying live shows. Their recently-formed "GOTHOS" side project has brought a new level of intensity and excitement to the band's live sound. Conceived as a goth-rock tribute band, Gothos is preparing to tour goth clubs across the country.
