Biography
Dewi Maile is on a mission to bring Aloha to the world using music as a conduit.  "Aloha is something that transcends mental constructs.  It's a universal truth found in us all.  The mele I share are meant to strengthen and mirror the Divine in each of us."  From coffee houses to house parties, festivals to school assemblies and beyond, Dewi brings it - and lives it.

Born and raised in Hilo on the Big Island, Hawai'i, Dewi's creative spirit was nurtured  by her parents from a young age when she began studying piano, hula and painting. Early on Dewi was exposed to Reggae, a genre with immense popularity throughout the Hawaiian islands.  Messages of unity and knowledge of self from the great roots rockers of the 70s and hip hop artists from the 80s and 90s inspired Dewi to begin her own musical journey.

Dewi started writing songs after graduating from college and began frequenting open mics when she moved to Brooklyn in 2000.  Gifted with a strawberry-red stained Norman guitar from her father, she began playing guitar in 2003.  That year Dewi co-founded Art Unites Us, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Hawaiian culture and other indigenous cultures through the arts.  Dewi has shared the Spirit of Aloha in collaborations with children, families, teachers, and communities throughout New York City and Hawai'i.

In 2004 Dewi recorded her first EP Aloha From Brooklyn and began performing her original music along with classic Hawaiian melodies.  She has performed at events promoting peace, social justice, environmental awareness, health and wellness including United Nations Culture of Peace Report unveiling at the UN Church Center, ‘Leaves of Grass’ in Fort Greene Brooklyn, commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Walt Whitman’s poem, The September Concert outside St. Marks Church in Manhattan, and the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Annual Hawai'i Heart Walks in Hilo, Hawai'i.

Since 2006 Dewi Maile has actively played and presented at many community events on Hawai'i Island.  She currently partners with Recycle Hawai'i as one of their 'Artists In The Environment' visiting schools island wide, sharing music and art from reused materials and her playful earth-themed tunes.  For more on her work with Recycle Hawaii and Artists in the Environment see http://bit.ly/14E5Ic
