Biography
Jim Ruel is a member of the Bay Mills Band of Ojibwe, who grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He comes from a large mixed heritage family consisting of his mother, a full blooded Ojibwe woman, father, a mix of Irish, German, and Dutch, one brother and five sisters. His love of comedy developed early on with a standup performance at his grade school talent show inspired by exposure to Monty Python, Mel Brooks movies, George Carlin, and Bill Cosby.
At Stanford University he was encouraged by one his professors to pursue his dream of standup comedy as a serious career. Using the same dogged determination that had made him a successful scholar, Jim Ruel has made sure to place his comedy career on a steady strong progression to the point where now his act is well respected within the standup comedy community.
With over a decade of experience, his career is truly flourishing. Jim Ruel has recently performed at Dartmouth College, University of Wisconsin, University of California - Riverside, Cal State Chico, South Dakota State, and Western Carolina University. He has also appeared at the Hollywood Improv, the Las Vegas Hilton, the Chicago Comedy Festival. His television appearances include “The World Stands Up” taped live in London, UK, “Clark and Michael,” NBC’s Diversity Talent Search, and will be appearing in the documentary “Crossing the Line: Multiracial Comedians” in the winter of 2007 on PBS.
