Blue Shaddy make their audience feel as though they are right there on stage with them. Always festival favourites, and are renowned for squeezing every last drop of energy into every performance. Blue Shaddy is a band with genuine chemistry between its members – the fact that half the band is from the same family probably has a lot to do with their musical bond, delivering their music with unpretentious honesty and sheer enjoyment. The band has been winning over plenty of new fans with their distinctive sound – which features a definite slant towards blues and root’s mixed with a swampy, earthy and surf-funk base and an infectious energy level on stage. Singer songwriter and guitarist Jim McClelland, his brother Belly (harmonica) and Sandra (bass guitarist and wife of Jim) were born and bred in Western Australia's remote wheat belt with dust and flies and not a lot else to do but focus on their love of music. When you listen to songs such as, 'don’t wanna die here' and 'people talk', you get a strong sense of where these three come from and it becomes evident that their heart still lies in their roots. Now having lived in the city of Perth for some 14 years and meeting band members, Malaysian born Arun Satgunasingam, (drummer & percussionist) , a true rural come urban come world Blues/Roots/Surf/Funk sound is what Blue Shaddy are today. The band also enjoyed the Number 1 spot on the Perth Indie Charts in May 07 (www.wam.asn.au) with their new album Walk A Mile, and have also received a Blue Star Award, Best instrumentalist Belly McClelland (www.bluestarawards.com) plus have just returned from appearances at the Great Southern Blues & Rockabilly Festival in Narooma, NSW.
