Artist Information

Biography
An Australian local radio station presenter made a comment to PJ that his music reminded her of "a mix between Bob Dylan and Paul Kelly” – then she pointed out that that was a compliment! It is one PJ will take, as along with Neil Young and Ron Sexsmith, these are his primary influences.

PJ Weston cut his musical teeth playing drums for a rock-n-roll band back in the days when pubs in Brisbane pulsed with the sound of live local music. Before long he was singing and playing guitar and harmonica. From his apprenticeship playing late night gigs three or four nights a week, the past decade has brought studio production and the art of recording to PJ's musical palette. The result is a sound which has maturity, yet the freshness of an artist constantly learning about and from his music.

Having made several records with bands such as Naked Apes and Poppa Mono over the past 15 years, in late 2007 PJ released his debut solo album. A recent review called it “Simple but not simplistic, ‘Songs About Home’ is honest, organic, and straight from the heart.”

He has assembled "The Precious Few" as a selection of musicians who are masters of their craft and share their passion for making music, giving his live performance the depth of instrumentation and great momentum that comes from a polished act. PJ’s years of stage experience give him a presence and confidence, which allows the band to leave the stage during the set while PJ pares it back to just him and his guitar, adding intimacy and appeal to the show.

So far 2008 has seen an unreleased song 'Fear the Fury of a Patient Man' shortlisted as a finalist in the Q Song music awards.

PJ Weston has a deep songbook to build his musical footprint - look out for the next release!
