Artist Information Biography Allyssa's music reveals traces of her parents' unbiased musical tastes; it was common for her to hear James Taylor and Stevie Wonder in one sitting. Although trained in classical piano and voice, it was Allyssa's later introduction to jazz and world music that would inspire her artistic aesthetic. The result of this melting pot of influences is an eclectic, soulful sound laced with clever lyrics and musical twists. Born in Chicago, Allyssa’s jazz dates featured sought-after players such as Steve Million and Neal Alger, and high-profile events, including the Women of Southport Jazz Festival. Now based in Boston, Allyssa has played in venues from Johnny D's to Riverside Theatre Works. Her work has garnered honors in the Billboard International Songwriting Competition and a place among Boston Magazine's "40 Bostonians to Watch". Instrumentation Currently records and performs with: Mark Shilansky, piano/keys Colin Sapp, guitar Matt Clauhs, sax Greg Holt, bass Dave Jamrog, drums Sheldon Thwaites, drums/percussion Also, additional horn players, background vocalists and spoken word artists periodically join the band. Past band members and collaborators include Rie Tsuji and Max Lubarsky (piano/keys), Mike Daillak and Lyndon Rochelle (drums), Monster “Mike” Welch (guitar), Alan Arena (songwriter).
