Biography
Ariel Storm is the result of longtime collaboration between singer/songwriter Ariana Storm and multi instrumentalist Kai Ariel. Their music, described as “Ambient Dreampop" combines lush, layered music arrangements with Ariana’s beautiful emotive vocals.Their main influences are the beloved Joni Mitchell and Brian Eno, reflected by their music being at once song driven yet also expansive in sound. This has drawn comparisons to Kate Bush, Lamb and The Cocteau Twins. Lyrically the music of Ariel Storm is a deeply honest expression of personal truth, with prevalent themes of self empowerment, social justice and emotional healing.
Ariana graduated from UCLA with a degree in the composition and theory of music where she won the Gil Rodin memorial scholarship for best pop musician. She is a five time winner of the Northern California Songwriters Association contest for best singer/songwriter. Ariana is also a dance musician (improvising on piano, voice and percussion for modern dance classes) and an abstract painter. Her paintings have sold nationwide.
Kai’s background includes creating multi media performance events and street theater. He has recorded and performed as a studio musician with many bands and solo artists in a variety of styles.
Currently Ariana and Kai perform as a duo, she on keyboards and lead vocals, with Kai on backing vocals and occaisional percussion, guitar or bass. They have performed throughout the United States. 2006 marked the release of their eponymous album “Ariel Storm” on Carefree & Bohemian Records.
