Artist Information Biography Dexter Porter is a jazz and standards vocalist originally from Eatonton, GA. and is presently living in Weehawken, NJ. At the urging of friends, Porter changed his focus from pursuing a carrier in musical theater and television in the great city of New York, to a career as a jazz vocalist. Dexter began with pianist David Marck to develop a repertoire of standards to perform in such notable nightclubs as Windows on the World Restaurant, Birdland Jazz Club, The Triad, and at Nell’s. Also, Porter has performed privately for Barbra Walters, Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Liz Smith, Regis Philbin, Starr Jones, and many other celebrities. Dexter participated in the Savannah Music Festival in Savannah, GA. The festival has begun to focus on jazz music; and Porter plans to continue performing jazz wherever he can. Most recently Porter has performed Jazz Tuesdays at Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar Restaurant and Lounge”. Porter believes that it is important to keep a true american form of music, Jazz, alive. In conclusion, he has always been influenced by the vocal stylings of Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand, who are in their own rights, true examples of classic american performing artists.
