Biography
Melanie Fontana is an award winning 23 year old singer/songwriter from Newington, CT now living in NYC.
Melanie has a 4 to 5 octave vocal range and a bold voice that has been compared to the vocal abilities of a young Mariah Carey as well as Christina Aquilera.
Melanie has received awards for both her vocal abilities and her songwriting.
She has performed at various venues, both large and small, including the World Famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, NY, Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland for the Baltimore Orioles, CBGB’s, The Duplex Theater, The Bitter End in NYC for a singer/songwriter/open mike events, local coffee houses, and community affairs and at private parties. She was named the first Connecticut Idol in October of 2002. She has appeared on and been a winning episode contestant/vocalist and a semi-finalist on MTV’s “Say What Karaoke”.
Melanie sings virtually all genres of music, from pop, to rock, as well as
R & B, and has a repertoire of cover and original songs from the 60’s to today!
Melanie is multi talented and has acting and dancing skills as well as her singing talents.
Melanie has done extra’s acting on CBS/Sony’s “LOVE MONKEY” as well as a Fox pilot titled “ The Wedding Album”, and a major motion picture still in production titled “Christmas in NY”. She has a featured role in “State U” an independent television series. She has appeared in HBO's Flight of the Conchords as well as the upcoming Fox series, Canterbury Law as a background extra.
Melanie’s dance instruction includes classes from Allegro studios, Newington, CT; Broadway Dance Center, NYC; and The Loft Dance and Fitness Center, Yonkers, NY.
Melanie is a member of ASCAP and AFTRA .
Instrumentation
Melanie has been known to play some piano by ear. :)
Melanie has 7 years of studio/recording experience, having sung demo work for producers in NY, CT and MA.
She has done demo and studio work for well known producers at the now defunct Sony Studios in NYC.

Discography
Melanie had two parody singles dropped on WTIC -FM in conjuction with DJ Gary Craig in Hartford CT. It was "Paris' Sweet Escape" co written by Melanie and Gary Craig. The song received nationwide airplay from CT, to NYC, to Florida to Hawaii. The 2nd song was "Married Ladies" the parody of "Single Ladies" by Beyonce.
Melanie also has several of her songs (tho' not officially released as singles) that are played on AM920 Radio (www.popgardenradio.com) - WMEL, Melbourne, Florida as well as Q107( with Dave "Mixitup" Fairman's show) -WSJQ- 106.7, Cape May, New Jersey and the UK internet station - www.tynefm.com.
