Artist Information Biography The members of Farewell Typewriter are sitting in the control room of the studio where they're recording their debut EP. Listening to rough mixes of the six songs they've completed, drummer Steve Slater points out a previously unnoticed fact to vocalist/guitarist/lyricist Grant Shellen: "You realize all but one of these songs start with 'I,' right?" It's then decided by Slater and bassist/vocalist Jason Countryman that their bandmate is obviously a self-centered egomaniac. This opinion is later supported by guitarist/keyboardist Audie Roldan, who joins the band after the recording of the appropriately-titled Selfish EP. While the lyrics may be selfish (which is really a stretch to say, as most of the songs are about characters, not Shellen himself), the music is egalitarian. Each member of the band is as likely as another to contribute an idea that becomes a part of one of Farewell Typewriter's pop-influenced songs -- whether or not that part will be played by the suggestor himself. The band members are influenced by a wide variety of musicians, but primarily by the great pop and rock songwriting of bands such as Pedro The Lion, Nada Surf, Superdrag, The Posies, Minus The Bear, Weezer, The Beatles, The Police, The Cardigans & Fountains of Wayne. Farewell Typewriter has rocked many of the great indie stages in the Bay Area (& beyond). They've played great clubs such as Cafe du Nord, Red Devil Lounge, Hotel Utah and The Uptown Club, always to great reaction from fans & strangers alike. Selfish as they may be, the members of Farewell Typewriter still want their fans to have a good time and possibly be inspired by its music. Plus they want a jet.
