Biography
ABAI, "SUPER MC/MUSIC PRODUCER" is a multi-threat artist with roots on both coasts. He’s an MC who Sings, Beat-Boxes and Raps, as well as a Dj who Composes and plays more than 11 instruments. He's good at ALL that he does, which definitely sets him apart from the pack.
Abai’s album, "FEARLESS" is masterful as a self produced solo effort. He artfully blends dub and world with hip-hop to create a sound that is edgy, head nodding and ridiculously infectious. Rich instrumentation and hitting rhythms weave a unique sound around catchy hooks that stay in your head. “FEARLESS ” is a sexy hip grinder that manages to be socially aware, sometimes cheeky, and often lyrical. It plumbs the depths of diverse roots, world culture and marries it to the "shake your ass", straightforward vibes of the contemporary dance sound. "FEARLESS" is ground breaking and teetering right on the edge!
Some of his early influences were Bob Marley and the Wailers, Yellowman, Jimmy Cliff, De La Sol, The Doors, Beastie Boys, Go-Go, and Raves.
Abai performed extensively thoughout America over the last ten years. In his early 20's, he formed a band called Kumbaka, and immersed himself in the underground world of cross-cultural music and arts festivals. Kumbaka self-produced an album and a tour across the U.S., then headed to Latin America and India, which provided Abai with just the right inspiration to fuel his vision back home on the festival circuit.
Next over 50 artists traveled to Bali, Indonesia to shoot a ground breaking music video/short film for the single "Temple Party”. This was a labor of love with no shortage of brilliance, beauty, miracles, drama and personal politics along the way.
Now, Abai is ready to drop "FEARLESS" on the world. Abai's greater vision is to bring more of what's so exceptional about underground, roots culture to the mainstream through music. Abai is a self-produced solo artist featuring several artists on his debut album, "Fearless" The Goddess Alchemy Project rock a couple of Abai produced tracks on their debut album. Nikila Badua is the featured vocalist on Abai's "Temple Party."
