Summary

The Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival is accepting up to 300 entries for the 2015 Performing Songwriter Contest.  Selected artists will compete live for four cash prizes of $500 each.

The Opportunity

Celebrating its 19th year as part of the Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival, the Performing Songwriter Contest will take place May 16th. Ten juried finalists will be chosen to compete on the Singer Songwriter Stage in the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson, Texas.

Artists may submit up to 3 entries, 2 songs per entry.  Artists will go through a blind review process and 10 finalists will be selected for the live portion. Entries will be judged based on the quality of the songs (50%) and the artist's presentation of the songs (50%).

The Band

  • Must be 18+
  • Recordings must be representative of the artist's live performance 
  • No instrumentals allowed
  • Co-written songs may be submitted; however, only one of the writers may submit an application and perform the song on the recording
  • Songwriters must own all rights to submitted songs
  • Songs that have been previously recorded and released under contract on a label are not eligible
  • Songs must have been written within the last two years (after December 2012)
  • Each song must not exceed five (5) minutes
  • 2013 winners and 2014 finalists may not submit

The Gig

Details:

  • 10 Finalists perform for four $500 prizes on May 16, 2015
  • Artists perform two songs each
  • Winners decided on day of contest
  • Winners perform 75 minute set in the round on Sunday the 17th, on the Singer Songwriter Stage
  • Professional sound and lighting provided
  • Sound engineer provided
  • Backline consists of weighted keyboard
Additional Compensation Details:
  • Top four songwriters receive $500 each, 6 finalists each get $100
  • All ten finalists receive two nights complimentary lodging at the host hotel
  • All ten finalists receive backstage passes and access to the green room for food and drink
  • In addition to contest performance, 10 finalists are scheduled to play 60 minute sets on the Courtyard Stage on Friday, Saturday or Sunday
  • Artists may sell merchandise and keep 100% of revenue
