In it's 28th year, the South by Southwest Music Festival has been one of the largest, most influential and anticipated music events of the year worldwide for over a quarter of a century. In 2013, a total of 2,325 acts performed at the festival (including over 600 non-USA acts from 55 different countries) on over 100 stages in downtown Austin. These bands had the opportunity to play for 25,000+ industry attendees, including 3,000+ media representatives that attended last year's event, and of course, thousands of fans.
In addition to the immense festival draw, SXSW provides access to more advanced band information than has ever been offered by a music industry convention, pre, during, and post-event. The Showcasing Band Pages on the SXSW website allow fans and professionals to search through the bands that perform at SXSW, hear their music, read their bios and get the date/time/location of their performance. The opportunities for media exposure have never been better with the event being covered by hundreds of national and international media outlets. Television crews, film makers, radio programmers, music magazine journalists, newspaper writers, podcasters and hundreds of independent bloggers will be in Austin reporting on every facet of the festival and laying claim to having heard the next big act before anyone else. The addition of iTune podcasts with exclusive live performances from SXSW bands, also helps extend the exposure the lucky SXSW performers get through the event.
From unsigned bands to indie and major label headliners, SXSW continues to be the premier music event that sets the tone and direction of the industry by introducing the hottest new talent, and showcasing the new directions and sounds of the most important musical acts in the world, while providing an ideal environment for bands to learn from and meet the music industry professionals that can help them further their careers.

Showcase Application Guidelines:
Thank you for your interest in applying to perform at SXSW 2014.
If you are signing up for Sonicbids for the first time and submitting to SXSW, you will need a major credit card to check out at the end of the application process. If you are an existing Sonicbids member, the credit card in your account will be charged. Once you have completed your application, you must complete your Sonicbids EPK or be sure it is up-to-date with your most current, relevant and important information, if you haven't already. Make sure to include updated mp3s, photos, bio, press, tour dates etc. Please update this information on a regular basis for a more complete and immediate evaluation.
Ensure that the Primary Contact is someone with frequent communication with the applying act and a frequently checked email address. This email address is where SXSW will send all notifications.
All applicants will be notified of their showcase status no later than January 22, 2014. Due to the large number of applications, we ask that you do not call the SXSW offices to inquire about status. Our goal is to notify all international applicants by the end of the year. As a benefit of performing, international acts receive an Artist Package (one artist wristband for each band member) and acts based in the U.S. have the option of choosing an Artist Package (artist wristbands for each band member) or cash. Showcasing acts only receive one benefit, even if they perform multiple showcases.
You do not need to purchase a registration badge to apply for or to perform at a SXSW showcase. Artists will be able to purchase registration badges at the lowest registration rate after notification of status, if they choose to do so. There are no refunds if you purchase a registration at a higher rate, or decide not to attend if you are not offered a showcase.
