"FREDI HANDSHOE "BIKINI MACHINES FROM BEYOND THE STARS" CD REVIEW"

Man, what a relief it was to hear this jam. The review could be a simple one-liner like, "If you dig rock n' roll, girls and parties, you'll dig Fredi Handshoe". From the beginning feedback of Marshall stacks in the opening track, "The Story of Jack", to the incredibly corny, yet somehow relevant chorus,"I wanna know, do you believe in rock n' roll", of the closer "Supersonic Bikini Machines", Fredi Handshoe's "Bikini Machines From Beyond the Stars" is a welcome breath of fresh air in a musical genre that's long been stagnant with pain, self-pity and of course, Nickelback. I loved the Hanoi Rocks influence in "Goodbye Miss America" and the Space Ace Frehley licks in "Gravity Girl". The album has its heavier songs as well including "Wait Your Turn" which sounds like KISS' "Parasite" being sang by Gene Simmons in a Rob Zombie vocal groove. I was glad to find somebody from Richmond with the ability to write great 3 to 4 minute rock songs that rock and make you feel like partying. This album proves that if you look around, you can find local musicians to satisfy your musical needs. I also thank you Fredi Handshoe for reminding me how much I dig the spaceman himself, Ace Frehley. So, if you're looking for music you can put in at a party that's not a buzz-kill, check out Fredi Handshoe at: myspace.com/fredihandshoe - THE GROOVE (June 2008)

Bio

Updated 70's Power Pop upfront, Arena Rock in the middle and a little Hard Rock thrown in the back for one hell of a ride.

Influences - Aerosmith, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Velvet Revolver.....anything that rocks with a great melody.

Fredi Handshoe (born in Trenton, New Jersey) is a recording artist, songwriter, audio engineer and record producer. Before he could walk he could slap lps on his father's turntable and there his love .....better yet his obsession with music began. Listening to such greats as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Buck Owens from his parents record collection the musical imprinting had begun. Who knew that the Man in Black and the Father of Rock Guitar would leave such a mark on a young impressionable blank slate? Before he could talk he would take his weapon of choice (at this point it was a ukulele which he took as his guitar) and babble out melodies inspired by some of the great masters.

Fredi kicked off his musical career in the ATL Music scene as Lead Guitarist for the band Sex Cab. They enjoyed minor success touring the east coast during the early 90’s with international label interest but no official deals. During their time together they released two independent efforts entitled “Sex Cab and “It Ain't Easy on the Planet Nine label (both releases are currently out of print). Fredi and the bassist Brash continued playing together in two other bands Marz and Goin’ Blind during the latter part of the 90’s where Fredi and Brash began to share the role of lead vocals. Sex Cab reunited in 2000 to perform a special one off benefit show and once again parted as friends to pursue their own musical careers.

After a brief hiatus, the end of 2000 brought a new project to light the band Super Sonic Guitars. Fredi and Goin’ Blind drummer Dave Browning recruited guitarist Brett Parker and bassist Steve Sizemore to complete this project. They kicked off their stint together in Lexington, Ky. at Rupp Arena and performed at several KISS and Rock Expos across the country Atlanta to New York, Baltimore to Omaha and everywhere in between. Sex Cab drummer Chris Moore joined forces with Fredi again in Super Sonic Guitars for a hand full of shows in 2003. After Dave returned at years end, Fredi parted ways to pursue a solo career due to internal conflicts and directional differences within the band.

Accidents can happen. Sometimes they can end in a car crash and other times they can cure cancer. This band may not be the cure for cancer but they are definitely the remedy for a music scene that needs some fire to live again.

Started as a project by songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Fredi Handshoe to support his latest solo CD "Bikini Machines from Beyond the Stars" and record some cover songs for an independent film. Fredi had invited longtime friends Chris Moore(drums/vocals) and Michael Shannon (Bass/vocals) over to the studio to begin working on the songs for the film. After a couple of days in the studio the ideal of taking this beyond just a project started to creep into Fredi's thoughts. Once everyone was in the same room together, something clicked and they quickly realized that they had the potential to become an unstoppable force.

Taking influences from bands such as Aerosmith, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue and the Beatles add in a massive dose of Thundering drums, Ripping Marshall and Ampeg stacks and you have a band that is ready to take Rock-n-Roll back to the airwaves.
