"Sonicbids x Ozone Magazine Artist of the Week: Fresh"

Our first pick of 2010 for the Sonicbids x Ozone Magazine Aritist of the Week comes from Inglewood, California and appropriately his name is Fresh.

Raised by his pastor father, Fresh became a rebel like most preacher’s kids, but eventually he found his own calling in music. While you shouldn’t expect any gospel raps from Fresh, his music is full of a good news and good vibes. His collection of songs shows that he can go from braggadocio on “The Return of Cool” to admittedly addicted to the finer things in life on “Addict”…

or introspective on “Get Thee Behind Me Satan,” proving that he has the balance necessary to become a bigger name in Hip Hop if he continues to work on his craft.

Already having opened for the likes of DJ Quik at the highly-popular Key Club, Fresh should be a name to look out for in the future. - Ozone Magazine

Bio

Born John Philip James Braden, "Fresh" grew up in a somewhat strict Christian background. Born to a Pastor and an evangelist, Fresh was given a strong foundation. But like most preacher's kids, Fresh found himself a rebel. A rebel that knew right from wrong but all too often found himself being left, far from 'right.'

Growing up, MUSIC SURROUNDED HIS LIFE! Fresh's father, Rev. Braden, tells a story of a young Fresh sitting on his father's lap while the reverend played the piano to calm his young son down. MUSIC BECAME HIS LIFE! As made evident by the music note tattooed behind his left ear. The meaning behind it lies in what Fresh considers music. "Life Is Music, and Music is Life. Everything i hear, from gun shots, to the sound of airplanes flying through thin air, police sirens, and the sound of a baby crying, it’s all music."

"Music is more than just melody and rhythm to me, it's emotion, its soul, every piece should represent a piece of you as the musician, if not, its manufactured and not from the soul," says Fresh. In his music you find him, Fresh, from the stories of being and inner city youth, expected to fail, to the sorrows of death, and the joys of life.

Fresh isn’t a thug, or a "gangsta," not a hoodlum or a knucklehead, he's just a man. A man who cries when he is hurt, but isn’t the one to mess with when he is angered. The man he has become is from his rearing in the church, and his running of the streets. Fresh has much to offer, and as much as he has to offer, he has much more to gain.

Fresh!
