"in tune with her inner self"

gilli moon is creative, artistic, and very in tune with her inner self. Most of her songs come from her life experiences, whether it’s love or self-fulfillment. gilli moon sends a good message in her songs of clarity, love, happiness, and acceptability. Her songs are relatable to the common individual who might be struggling to find acceptance and looking at putting the pieces of the puzzle that is their life. Our fast paced daily lives are filled with so much clutter and confusion that we forget to stop and appreciate what we have, appreciate the beauty around us, the people that fill our lives with happiness. gilli moon’s songs allow us to do just that. - Foothills Paper, Pasadena

"a masterpiece of an album ... an unsurpassed level of greatness"

Have you ever really been impressed by a songwriter? Now, most people will say, “yes, I have”, but on what merits are they basing their answer? Perhaps the beat or the hook, but are they really taking into account commonly overlooked qualities such as the structure, history or vision of the songwriter; and if they are, it must then indicate that the writer has truly done their job well. It’s not often that this fast paced, sped-up world allows us to take a step back and truly appreciate another’s work, but when these moments do present themselves, it is commonly beyond our verbal capacity to show an accurate amount of appreciation for these worldly gifts. Long-time WomensRadio favorite, Australian, Hollywood-based singer-songwriter gilli moon, has not only created a masterpiece of an album on soon-to-be-released, The Stillness, but she has tapped into an unsurpassed level of greatness on her 6th release since 1998. Prepare to enter the stillness of gilli moon, where the only thing moved is the listener.

From the opening moments of “Conversation With Me”, gilli’s golden voice radiates a much-needed warmth in an often-times chilly contemporary setting, while at the same time spinning a delicate-yet-soulful and full-bodied take on pop music that comes across as more self-empowering than commercial in stature.

Uplifting and uniquely blended hints of Americana, shoegaze and rock are carefully woven throughout “Be”, while production takes center stage on the feel good Friday favorite, “I Am”, which propels the listener into the weekend, past Monday and all the way back around into next week, next month and further out into the ether of time and space itself.

We had the distinct pleasure of previewing “Outside In” last August in Nashville at the Pitch-a-Song panel during the 2009 Indiegrrl Conference at Hotel Preston, and are excited to see that the song is seeing a proper release this June. Elements of jazz and classic rock intermingle in gilli’s alt. pop/singer-songwriter perspective, while naturalistic vibes are grown in abundance, flourishing and taking the listener on a hegira not to be forgotten.

Our (hands down) favorite track on The Stillness would have to be the title track ("The Stillness"), which sweetly whispers smooth & soulful nothings into the listener’s ears as experimental soundscapes swirl through the air on this lazy summer afternoon jam that takes trip hop to a level comparable to “Morcheeba meeting Michael Jackson in a Rhymesayers studio session”. The addition of male vocals add a level of robustness that can only be conceived by the genius that is known to the world as singer-songwriter, recording artist, music producer and global community builder, gilli moon.

Funk, disco and chillout grooves pop up, while hip-hop beats and male vocals return on “Cos I Love You So”, which is amazing in its own right, but at the same time we have a sneaking suspicion that if the stems were opened up via a remix contest, we may just hear something that would take the electronic music world by storm. Jus sayin.

If the previous fifty seven minutes didn’t completely captivate the listener, the last three and a half (“I Can Touch The Sun”) ensure total satisfaction. Take a song that is mostly a cappella, aside from thumb snaps and the introduction of the ivories halfway through, but uses the vocal instrument in brilliantly-arranged harmonies and barbershop-esque back-up's to place itself on par with the songwriting competency of many past greats; creating what could have easily been one of the best-selling records of the 70's…

“Life is like a drug for gilli moon, and the passion that courses through the veins of ‘The Stillness’ is the same life-blood that created the pyramids, brought humankind to outer-space and fathomed individual expression through the arts. Simply stated, Ms. moon has tapped into Maya, and is here to share it with all who are open and receptive.”

"screaming for a top ten chart position"

"...It is the lyrics to these pieces of her inner soul that take this project to a higher level From the first note.... screaming for a top ten chart position. Her music reminds me of a cross between Alanis Morissette and Carole King. Very much like her visual artistry, her music also paints a picture of hope, a picture of inner strength. She is indeed a warrior!"

"sings like an angel"

The Australian singer-songwriter sings like an angel with the strength of an opera diva - she's got a sound that's totally her own. Moon exposes her soul on this record and what a wondrous soul she is. Confident one minute and fragile the next, she swells with emotion while striding between inspired pop, rock and jazz. The definitive "SensuArtist" - Gilli Moon delivers music, art and a brave sense of self-expression in her energetic, sensual and expressive performances and recordings.

"a provocative mix"

Just fresh back from touring Australia, Renaissance woman, Gilli, and her warriors lit up the stage with a provocative mix of pop and jazz with a slightly political punk twist. Ever theatrical, outspoken and with an extremely dynamic, extensive and expressive vocal range, she’s all about girl power, sexuality and peace. Their set was upbeat and danceable, sprinkled with passionate keyboards, guitar solos, jams and guest vocals. Lots of energy, very steamy set! - Cyhndi Mora, All Access

"a multi-dimensional experience"

Seeing gilli moon perform is truly a multi-dimensional experience that pleasantly feeds your eyes, mind and ears all at once. Moon is constantly inspired to create. As her music builds and takes form, she creates her own unique paintings on an amazing glass canvas, all the while singing and performing with tremendous beauty and grace. - David Konow, freelance journalist

"oozes self empowerment"

From the first time I listened to this album I was hooked. I have listened to it so many times I have driven everyone in the house mad. Gilli sings like an angel with the strength of an opera diva. This CD features a fabulous cover of INXS “Need You Tonight” as an ode to Michael Hutchence. The album oozes self empowerment with titles like “I’m Calling You” and “I Think Of Him”. - Remedy Magazine, Townsville Australia

"extraOrdinary life CD review"

"Every so often an artist exceeds expectations. They create a piece of work that is so exquisite, it’s breathtaking. gilli moon has taken that quantum leap with her latest album, extraOrdinary life. It’s an epic endeavor from an artist already well known for her independent and adventurous spirit. Indeed, this album covers a wide range of styles and emotions that touch every aspect of our lives. Though reviewers, as well as fans, will probably mention comparisons to Tori Amos, Sting and Radiohead, Moon has instilled this record with such a strong sense of self that one gets the impression she’s letting us in on her secret life – an extraordinary one at that.

Starting with the title track, Moon takes listeners on a remarkable journey through exotic and unpredictable soundscapes. With songs such as “Release Me,” “Evolution,” “Bye Is Such A Lonely Word,” and the unforgettable “Hollywood,” she has stacked this album with enough hit material to get her plenty of attention. Though, at times, the scope of her vision is challenging, it's always compelling; and, Moon’s vocals have never been better. What’s most surprising, however, is her preternatural ability to make her lyrics intimate yet universal. In fact, this body of work reaches the ultimate level of craftsmanship with “Enchanted Forest” and “My Extraordinary Life” expanding the boundaries of songwriting as we know it.

This is an album that is best heard in its entirety. Not because of any overall concept, but rather because it’s a beautiful expedition of emotions and stories that comfort, excite and inspire. Indeed, after hearing the songs presented on this record, you wouldn’t be faulted if “you” also wanted to lead - an extraordinary life."

"self-determination is a big theme"

Nancy Sinatra, Neneh Cherry and, er, John Lennon have all had a crack at the title. Woman is Australian singer-songwriter Gilli Moon's stab at what it means, but don't expect the answer in stick figures. "I'm not going to give u the mundane, same old tired norm," she warns on her third LP. "I am a woman. I am complex. I have many emotions, feelings, personalities." The album bristles with them. It arrives on her own label, Warrior Girl Music, produced and mostly played by herself. An atmospheric deconstruction of INXS's Need You Tonight is the only tune not bearing her writing credit. Like her kindred independent spirit Ani DiFranco, self-determination is a big theme for Gilli Moon. Parallel with the album, she's launching a book. titled I AM A Professional Artist: "an inspirational guide for young artists" making their OWN way in the music biz. http://sydney.citysearch.com.au/profile?id=9281 - City Search Australia
