"Bring the Music Initiative and Jam For the Cause"

"BIG SHOUT OUT needs to go to Jackie Rada, Maggie Mitchell and Sarah Buchanon for being the machine behind Jam for the Cause. They grabbed the venue, booked the bands and marketed the event to insure its success"..."This shows so clearly to me how music can bring strangers together – in more ways than the obvious. It proves, ever so subtly, how music really is a universal language and truly does heal us in so many ways." (article continues) - The L Stop Magazine

"Jackie Rada – Chicago’s Piano Woman and so much more."

Jackie Rada – Chicago’s Piano Woman and so much more. I noticed the hair at first and the perfect smile. But before I could digest any of the obvious – I heard the music. This girl can play. Jackie Rada can make playing that piano look as easy as peeling a banana – it is her gift – and she shares it with her audiences. She is a teacher, a student in the world of music and a dreamer. I think Chicago is lucky to have her – and I think she is someone you should get to know…" (article continues) - The L Stop Magazine

Bio

Since its debut in November, 2011, GIRLBAND has charmed the skinny jeans off hipsters and frat boys alike at iconic venues like Elbo Room and Cubby Bear (Wrigleyville). We've partied with the rest of Chicago on stage at street fests like Northalsted Market Days and Glenwood Arts Fest. GIRLBAND has rocked the largest women's street fest, supported puppies at charity events, made networking events more lively, and danced the night away at three straight sold out New Years' Eve events. We're ladies who rock and we're ready to roll...What can we do for you?

GIRLBAND is a group of classically trained, well educated musicians, each mastering her own craft in rock, pop, Latin, punk and disco. We are a collaborative project of the most talented and diverse female musicians in Chicago, having played within a collective 15 bands between us. We can drink tea, talk music theory and teach children, but when we get on stage, we are ready to groove.

JACLYN RADA (the KEYS) conceptualized GIRLBAND. Her unparalleled passion for pop music and the keytar is contagious and at the heart of the group. What Jaclyn can do on the keys should be illegal, but we're glad it's not, because it's often the highlight of a GIRLBAND show. With an MA in Musicology, Jaclyn is certified to talk a lot about music. She can also be seen with Who Knew and The Sami Grisafe Band.

JANET CRAMER (DRUMMER extraordinaire) has a Masters in Music Performance, and her jazz, blues and Latin background give GIRLBAND an unsuspecting musical edge.  Janet can also be seen sharing the stage with many top musicians from Chicago's blues, jazz, Latin and rock scenes, as well as Jenny Dragon, Sandra Antongiorgi, and the Jodi Jean Band.

SHEELA REDDY (the BASSIST) is the punky, funky, Disco Diva with a heart of gold! If you're lucky, Sheela and her bass will be dancing with you in the crowd. Sheela is also known for being one half of the popular band, 1/2 Mad Poet.

Our most recent additions to GIRLBAND include Kelli Ann Lotrich (of Who Knew Entertainment) and Claire Corriveau (of The Lucky Dutch) on vocals.
