"Music Evolution/Revolution"

The music industry is certainly chasing artists out of Dodge. Or perhaps, we’ll learn it’s really the other way around.

I saw a real deal of a show on Friday night (Dec. 28). I paid an unbelievable $15 to see some GREAT bands. One of which, knocked my proverbial socks off!

The band is Grey Sanford. You figure out the name. Let’s just say that there is no doubt they were THEE best band showcased this evening. Kim Petrarca...rather, ROCKER - Can this chick SING! She’s got all the passion and emotion lead pipes should! I was beyond impressed at the melodic, rocking groove that is born of this highly talented band: Kim Petrarca (lead vocals; rhythm guitar); Greg Roch (vocals; rhythm guitar; keys); John Carosi (drums); Andy Roch (rhythm and slide guitar; percussion); Mike Geer (bass) and last, but certainly not least, Neil Gagnon (lead guitar).

These cats can really rock it and keep you in the moment with Kim’s searing vocals and the band’s overall tight jigsaw connection with each other as well as the audience. Not only tight but smooth, clean, crisp sound...you could hear Kim’s lyrics punching a hole into the space created by the force of their intensity. It’s quite evident this band loves to play together and I always love to see that camaraderie spill out onto the stage. It makes you, enjoying the show, feel like a part of it. Part of their happiness. You being there to see them and support them makes them happy.

I certainly felt happy for Grey Sanford that night. They had a great bill, although I will admit I feel they should’ve had a later time slot...although it certainly looked like the sold-out venue was at capacity at the time they hit the stage!

Bio

With a uniquely appealing sound and unassuming style, Grey Sanford has a singer/songwriter feel with hints of blues, jazz, rock & a little bit of jam which harkens back the sound of The Allman Bros & Marshall Tucker Band with a new millennium spin. With their infectious harmonies & melodies, chilled hooks and honest lyrics Grey Sanford, based out of Providence RI, has developed a diverse fanbase and the ability to win over any crowd. Started in the winter of 2004, Grey Sanford was born around 4 musicians with a love of music and songwriting. With influences ranging from Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Stevie Ray to Grant Lee Phillips, Dave Matthews and Phish, Grey Sanford intricately weaves these different styles into their songwriting to create a sound all their own. Their first CD, Sunday Morning Breakfast, was released in 2005 and was quickly embraced by their loyal fans who wasted no time learning lyrics and singing along at live shows. 2006 began with the rootsy, americana styled "Country Song" being selected as a finalist in VH1's song of the year contest. In the summer of 2006 Grey Sanford rounded out their lineup and sound with the addition of two new members. The soulful vocals of singer/songwriter Kim Petrarca and grooved out fretless bass stylings of Mike Geer have brought their sound to the next level. 2007 began with GSB rocking their way through the Emergenza Festival to the stage of the legendary Avalon in Boston as well as making their way down to Kenny's Castaways in Greenwich Village, New York. GSB has moved into their new studio and are currently working with Grammy Award winning producer, Vini Poncia (Ringo Starr, Kiss), on their follow up album. With the new songs already introduced at the live shows, they have quickly become fan favorites. Grey Sanford’s infectious melodies and hooks combined with their love for playing music create a musical atmosphere to let loose, chill out and more importantly have fun.
