"Holy Boy stuns with haunting portrait of Los Angeles “Elegy”"

Holy Boy stuns with haunting portrait of Los Angeles “Elegy”

Ahead of her debut full-length, due later this year, Norway's Holy Boy (aka Helene Alexandra Jæger) releases new single "Elegy", a portrait of Los Angeles, the city she currently calls home.

The circling backdrop of organs found on "Elegy" is a distinctive feature of Jæger's music, but here there's a distance not found on previous releases. Last year's eponymous EP featured heavy, ritualistic percussion – notably absent from this new track.

Inspired by nights spent in the sprawl of the city, "Elegy" draws on a broad palette of sonic influences to conjure its dystopian imagery. Citing the industrial drone of Suicide, alongside 60s pop and classic West Coast hip-hop as formative influences, Jæger describes her songwriting as "explorations in consciousness". The resulting sound is at once eclectic and utterly immersive; smoky and classic, yet simultaneously futuristic. - The Line Of Best Fit

"Listen to Holy Boy's mystifying single "Lay Your Hands" [Premiere]"

Perfect for a dark, rainy day and a cup of coffee is Holy Boy’s most recent release “Lay Your Hands”. Holy Boy is the brain child of Norwegian-born, LA-based Helene Alexandra Jaeger. Layer upon layer of spacious, modulating synths create a mystifying and atmospheric arena for Jaeger’s velvety, nonchalant vocals to soar and reflect in an entrancing ambience.

“Lay Your Hands” is a beautiful taste of Holy Boy’s debut self-titled EP, due out late June via Native Habitat. The EP was recorded at Pool Studios in London by Ben Hillier (Depeche Mode, Blur, The Horrors), and is a collection of tragic outlier love songs, free spoken word associations and well crafted rock exploring the space between life and death, melancholy and existential dread. With “Lay Your Hands” as the launch pad, I can see Holy Boy rising quickly through the ranks of the indie-pop world in the near future. - Earmilk.com

"Premiere | Holy Boy gets cinematic on "Deep Sky" video"

MUSIC | Helene Jæger's solo project has a new single out, and it's backed by luscious visuals

Desire can come in distorted forms.

Helene Jæger is getting set to release a new EP for her dark, cinematic pop solo project Holy Boy. Last week, she dropped a single from the new EP called "Lay Your Hands" via Earmilk. The wavy alt-rock track is a lot more energetic than "Deep Sky," a doleful, organ-driven track that comes paired with visuals that match it's dream-like energy. Giving "Deep Sky" an in-depth listen, it almost comes as no surprise that Jæger has an interest in the esoteric.

Jæger tells Popdust that the song was birthed when she was in a very strange place emotionally. For her, "Deep Sky" is "when the borders are all erased. Where does one person end and the other begin?" The sensuality and desire so present in the song's video is palpable, confusing, and ever-entrancing. Step into Jæger's dark wonderland if you dare. - Popdust.com

""I Got Lost""

Holy Boy is the latest project from Helene Alexandra Jæger, a Norwegian artist whose broad span results in some extremely special music.

Former incarnation Her Royal Harness delivered 2013 debut 'The Hunting Room', a moody and artful slice of synth-pop.

But now she's ready to try something different. Holy Boy is bleached out desert rock, the songwriting powerful and poised. Flying out to CMJ in New York, Helene is set to complete a flurry of live shows where she will debut fresh material.

Material like '15 Billion Miles'. Slow-paced but fast-burning, it's a sizzling, atmospheric piece of music - sparse, minimal yet wholly effecting. - Clash Magazine
