"Izabo"

"Izabo don't sound like anything else: a brilliant and energetic mix of Psychadelic Rock, Disco, Funk and Arabic Music... Complex and powerful, yet at the same time light and colorful, almost clownish..."
- Ben Shalev, "Haaretz"

"Rarely is a music critic made so happy by a new album"

Avi Efrati - "Tel Aviv" magazine

"The first Israeli CD whose english rings totally true"

"The first Israeli CD whose english rings totally true... A delightful brew... everything that’s missing in Israeli music lately - Originality, guts, and most of all - Joy."

"happy disorganized salad of eastern and western influences"

"...Proving yet again what The Churchills discovered in the sixties, Ofra Haza and Minimal Compact perfected in the Eighties, and Shimon Parnas sold to the masses in the Nineties - that the uniqueness of Israeli music comes from the fact Israeli culture is a happy disorganized salad of eastern and western influences..."
Eran Dinar - Nana.co.il

""One of the more brilliant albums created in Israel lately.""

Geva Kra-Oz - Ynet

Bio

Izabo will release "Slow Disco", the first single off their highly anticipated sophomore effort – "Superlight" – in June 16th in Israel.

Izabo's debut album "The Fun Makers" was released in Israel in 2003 to rave reviews marking the band as the biggest alternative success in its native country. Following "The Fun Makers" success, Izabo were signed to SONY BMG and release "The Morning Hero EP" in the UK the same year.
The EP paved the way for a UK headlining tour of the Barfly clubs in five cities. Both the tour and the EP received a very warm welcome from the Indie media, and the band was soon invited to do a BBC 6Music recorded radio session.

In January of 2005 "The Fun Makers" was released in the Benelux via “Rough Trade NL”. The release was followed by a short tour, where Izabo showcased their unique style on stage at the EuroSonic 2005 Festival in Chroningen, The Netherlands.

In 2006 "The Fun Makers" was released in France via Roymusic/Discograph.
The release was followed by extensive touring and a memorable performance in 2007 on the prestigious TV show - "Taratata" - where acts like The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Avril Lavigne play regularly.

Also in 2007, the band played the famous CMJ festival in NY and was chosen to be a one of the festival's "Spotlight Artists", performing at the legendary Living Room and the Highline Ballroom.

Izabo's music has been described as a "Brilliant, action packed combination of Psychedelic Rock, Disco, Punk and Arabic spices", or, if we are to
name-drop, like an unlikely cross between Led Zeppelin, the Talking Heads, and Om Koltom. Featuring high-to-ultra-high vocals, twisting and expressive Arab-flavored guitar work, powerfully funky bass lines, arrogantly catchy keyboards and intense disco beats, Izabo have established themselves as one of Israel's most absorbing live acts.

Izabo had collaborated with many well-known Israeli artists both in the studio and on stage, from Ahuva Ozery to Israel Prize winning choreographer Ohad Naharin. Izabo's Duet with "Shotey Hanevu'a" earned them an Israeli Music Award for best song in 2005.
"Superlight" is set to be released in Israel on July 3rd, and in France on November 3rd via Roymusic/Discograph.
