Opening performers during the “Country Fest” evening included Shannon Scott, Alyssa Startup, Matt Johnson, and Rob Daniels, all who did a great job entertaining the crowd. Another opening act was the Jason Casterlin Band, which got the audience going with a fun set of country songs. The Hudson Valley group played a combination of originals and covers like “Wagon Wheel.” Casterlin has an excellent voice, so country music fans should check him out if he plays in your area." - Chimes Freedom
I had a great time this past spring tracking some leads for my good friend Jason Casterlin.
Some of the songs I performed on “Old Stone Church” were: Pretty girl, You’ve got me now, (thats my favorite solo on the record ;-) ) Five ticket Ride, Living On and Keep Running Back. I tracked some other background parts, but I am very proud of all the chosen performances, and very appreciative of the opportunity to add my own little spice to an already terrific musical meal.
I used two guitars on this session. One was a stock Fender tele, with some nasty old dirty strings (LOL!) as well as Mark Lowe’s blue catatele. The amplifer was a swart space tone atomic jr., powering a speaker cabinet isolated in a separate room. It was the first of what I hope to be many sessions at West West Side Studios in Newburgh, NY., a friendly full service professional recording studio. Over two separate sundays, great work was being done and it was a remarkable session (notice I said reMARKable)… I owe a tremendous amount of thanks to Sean Hanson, the engineer and pro tools pro engineering that day. :-)

Jason Casterlin has given the music-loving world Old Stone Church, a hooked laden collection of 11 songs that runs the gamut from windows-down Americana rock to Sun Studios-era country. Jason’s band, are a throwback to the heyday of Yoakam’s Babylonian Cowboys – a 5-piece outfit that can make you holler or make you weep from one track to the next. Guitars, pedal steel, keys, drums and bass complement Jason’s lyrics and voice the way a hand-picked band should.
Jason has been a mainstay on the Hudson Valley live music scene for over decade – first in one of the region’s most beloved cover bands, Maria’s Basement, and then as a founding member of the alt.country band, The Woodcocks. With his solo career taking off fast, Jason has already shared the stage with the likes of James Otto, Jimmy Wayne, Easton Corbin, Billy Currington, Blackberry Smoke, Ryan Bingham, to name a few. Old Stone Church is inspired by Jason’s life with his wife, their golden retriever, and their home overlooking the Shawangunk Ridge – a setting as suitable as any for a Yankee making country and roots music.
