"Music: Johnny Reeferseed and the High Rollers – “Light ‘Em Up”"

The Toker Tune from the MMA being played today is ‘Light Em Up’ by Johnny Reefereseed and the High Rollers, which was first played on the Stash last June. Since June, the song has walked away with the Marijuana Music Awards Best Funk Song in the 2008 Global MMA event! Their win was announced at the joint GMMA/ Texas NORML Smokeout event in Austin.

Johnny Reeferseed says this song, Light Em Up, is about “the typical day of a stoner – whatever happens, light one up!”. Stasher, RevRayGreen, told us “Light Em Up” was recorded in a top recording studio in Iowa.

This groovin funk track features Afroman, a good friend of Johnny Reeferseed and an underground cult hero. Johnny Reeferseed first met up with Afroman a good while back, after hearing Afroman rap his agent’s number on stage. They connected the next day and the rest is history.

Johnny Reeferseed and the High Rollers were started for fun at first, believing they’d have trouble getting bookings because of their name. However they did get bookings, found themselves becoming increasingly popular and are now a really great band! They have a new CD coming out this year.

Bio

Three time Marijuana Music Award Winners, Johnny Reeferseed & The High Rollers, have been smoking up stages across the Midwest with their raucous and unruly live rock n roll shows since they were founded by frontman and guitar player, Johnny Reeferseed, in early 2006.

With their own brand of rock n roll, funk, country, and reggae they refer to as Red Eyed Soul, The High Rollers are helping spread the good word about cannabis with humorous but true to life lyrics, infectious hooks, and irresistible grooves.

After winning the Global Marijuana Music Award for Best Funk Song of 2008 with "Light 'Em Up" featuring none other than America's #1 marijuana rapper, Afroman, The High Rollers followed it up in 2009 by winning the American Marijuana Music Award's Best Pop Song and Song of the Year for "Brother Can You Spare A Dime", a catchy little ditty about hard times without reefer.

Johnny Reeferseed & The High Rollers are currently working on finishing up their upcoming full-length album. In the meantime "Light 'Em Up" and "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" are available on iTunes and CD Baby.
