"SW Reverb Album Review"

Named after the greatest lip gloss ever invented, Kissing Potion is more a sonic explosion of Don Cherry than wild cherry (and not at all Buckcherry) for your ears. With a stereotypically funky horn section and big vocals, this is the kind of band whose chill energy and pro execution pull you into their whole set at an outdoor festival. Let’s go ahead and call them Bumber-funk. - Seattle Weekly Reverb, April 2012

"Kissing Potion/Georgetown Orbits"

Georgetown Orbits, Kissing Potion show at Nectar Lounge

I just got home from seeing The Georgetown Orbits and Kissing Potion play at Nectar Lounge in Fremont. Both of their sets were great. The bands have very different genres--the Orbits play traditional Jamaican ska, and Kissing Potion plays vintage soul, but both feature talented brass sections. I love bands with brass for two reasons: 1) brass is shiny and I like shiny things--ooh, a new penny!--and 2) nothing sounds as full and rich as brass.......The mostly female band Kissing Potion opened the show, and showed off their talented horn section as well. There is something sexy about a female horn section. Their blend of soul and funk would make Maceo proud.

"Orgone + Kissing Potion - Nectar"

"I don’t think a single person had a bad time at Nectar Lounge Friday night. I walked in soon after Kissing Potion’s set started, and was immediately a little bit entranced. The female lead vocalist, Joy Davenport, is a strong woman with a whole lot of addictive attitude. She led the rest of the Kissing Potion through a fun, rambunctious set, which included an excellent “Use Me” sample performed by brass player Mike “Moose” Barber, and the sultry “Chains of Love”. Before performing the latter, Joy Davenport asked the audience if anyone had ever been wrapped in the “chains of love,” and one eager reveler replied in the mic, “I am right now!” much to the glee of the audience." - melophobe.com

"Kissing Potion opens for Orgone"

review by Ben Guerechit

Nectar Lounge in Fremont was going off on Tuesday night. California funksters Orgone had Seattle shakin’ their groove thangs all over the dance floor...

...Nectar’s balcony provided a key vantage point to witness the first of the night’s double shot of funk and soul: local act Kissing Potion. The female dominated group fronted by vocalist Joy Davenport, who introduced the set by saying, “We hope you get your groove on,” did in fact groove up atmosphere and prep the emerging crowd as it rolled in...

...the ladies (and two lads) seemed a perfect opener for Orgone. Fiery horns, a head-bobbing rhythm section and some fancy Hendrix imitations from guest guitarist Jabrille Williams kept the crowd occupied. - KEXP

Bio

Kissing Potion is an almost all-female funk group that brings funk & soul to life with a smooth, sultry singer, a full horn section that creates new meaning for the phrase "FUNK YOU!", and a rhythm section whose groove will move you from your soul down to your toes!

The original concept of Kissing Potion was a ten member strong, all-female funk group, but... then we met a few folks of the male-persuasion and couldn't resist asking them to join our lady-laden lair of FUNK.

The ladies and gents of Kissing Potion hail from all corners of the US - the Deep South, NY, NJ, Philly, the Midwest, and the Emerald City. These diverse musical backgrounds support the unique sound that IS Kissing Potion: Dirty, gritty, smooth, pretty...as long as it's FUNKY.
