Letter from Panos

January 30, 2013

Well, I have some big news! As you may have read in the New York Times, I am pleased to announce that Backstage, the premier site for entertainment industry opportunities, has acquired Sonicbids with financial backing provided by Guggenheim Partners.

Sonicbids and Backstage share unbelievably similar visions and missions. What Sonicbids does for bands and music promoters, Backstage has done for more than 50 years for actors and casting directors. Together, we aim to be the world’s largest platform connecting performing artists of all kinds with opportunities – which means that soon you will be able to see lots and lots more Gig Listings on Sonicbids.

I started Sonicbids out of my small apartment in Newton, MA more than 12 years ago, armed with little more than a stack of credit cards and a vision that would not let me sleep: to create the site where any band or artist in the world – regardless of genre, location, nationality or representation – could easily connect with opportunities to help them grow their careers.

Today, Sonicbids has over 400,000 bands and 30,000 promoters and members from 100 different countries. And, with some 750,000 gigs booked since our founding, I am proud to say that the little daydream that I had in a pre-iTunes, pre-social media, pre-online-everything world, has become the new reality.

I am excited about the additional opportunities that this merger will bring to you, our members and customers, so be on the lookout for lots more to come.

Rock on!
