"Mr. Pauer performing at Central Park Summer Stage along with Jarabe de Palo, Novalima and Ely Guerra"

Presented in association with (LAMC) Latin Alternative Music Conference.

Jarabe de Palo is a Latin rock group from Spain led by Pau Donés. With a sound that is characterized as a fusion of rock and blues with Latin American rhythms, the group is regarded as among the most original contemporary Spanish groups. With hit singles such as “La Flaca” and “Depende,” as well several successful albums, they have also had many international collaborations with artists such as The Pretenders and Italian superstar, Jovanotti.

Mexican songstress Ely Guerra is a staple of the Latin music scene, with a cadre of successful albums such as Lotofire and Sweet, Sour, Hot & Spicy under her belt. Her unique sound has successfully mesmerized audiences. In 2010, her Grammy winning album, Hombre Invisible was released to rave reviews, including The New York Times, which said her music is infused with “passion [that] is profound and all-consuming, a matter of ecstasy or desperate need.”

Since 2001, Novalima has been breaking down boundaries, uniting seemingly irreconcilable genres, communities and generations to create an inspiring movement that has revolutionized the music scene in their native Peru. By deftly blending traditional Afro-Peruvian music and modern DJ culture, Novalima searches for the common ground between past and future, between tradition and innovation. As a Latin Grammy nominee for Best Alternative Album, Novalima has garnered critical acclaim from both mainstream and underground media.

Toto Gonzalez is the DJ/Producer behind the project Mr. Pauer, which has gained global recognition for its “Electropico” beats on his latest release entitled, Soundtrack. Based in Miami for the past 18 yrs, he has been in charge of exposing the global beats to all the cities where he performs. - Summer Stage

"KEXP’s Song of the Day: Mr. Pauer – Que Si Que No"

Mr. Pauer, a.k.a. Toto Gonzalez, is a world-renown Miami DJ/Producer who has done more to promote the Latin music scene in South Florida than any other artist of recent memory. The name for his side project literally means “power,” but with his own “spanglish” spelling used instead. Born in Venezuela, he soaked up all the great latin musical influences around him before making the move to Miami. Mixing a number of different (and usually more unique) styles is his game, from Euro dance and house to grunge, salsa, cumbia, and Latin rock to name just a few. As a DJ, one of his main challenges early on was figuring out a way to mix all his different influences into one big party. Now he’s just as comfortable mashing together classic cumbia or merengue with Nine Inch Nails or Depeche Mode. “Living back in Venezuela I grew up listening to Anglo and Spanish rock, my mother used to listen to boleros, my dad to traditional Venezuelan music, my older brothers to American 80’s pop, and to socialize I had to learn how to dance salsa and merengue. Magically after years, I connected dots unconsciously creating an array of sounds that identify with the culture I grew up with,” says Mr. Pauer. Lots of live percussion, root sounds, and a trademark style he simply calls “electropical beats”. His music is like traveling to a tropical island, only digitally.

Today’s featured song comes right in time to announce KEXP’s new Latin music show, El Sonido, hosted by DJ Chilly and airing on Monday nights between 6PM and 9PM. Tune in to hear more Mr. Pauer and songs out of and influenced by Central and South America. - KEXP - Seattle / New York City

About Mr. Pauer
A globetrotting DJ/Producer and remixer born in the Caribbean city of Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, Mr. Pauer (Toto Gonzalez) is now based in the sunshine funk of Miami, FL.

Ever since Mr. Pauer moved to Miami over 18 years ago, he has helped the city develop a burgeoning scene of international music through his long-running DJ residencies, and the Fabrika brand (www.fabrikalink.com); one of the leading websites in the US promoting World beats, Latin culture, and indie music for more than 10 years.

Mr. Pauer’s musical influences are as diverse as rock, electro, new wave, house, tropical and cumbia, which runs the gamut; creating a dynamic musical explosion in his production and live sets. His recent release, Soundtrack, is a collection of songs that are loosely defined as “Electropical” beats. The production value is aimed at inviting you to dance, despite cultural backgrounds; very typical of his DJ sets and crowds.

Pauer. There’s no wonder that the Miami New Times called him, “…perhaps the most international of all Miami DJs.”
Mr. Pauer’s exuberant musical experience and passion mixing music from all over the world have earned him the opportunity to play at events like the Latin Grammy Awards (2010), The Latin Alternative Music Conference (2009/10), Premios Fox Sport (2010), and sharing stages with notable artists including Céu, Julieta Venegas, Macaco, Tego Calderón, ZZK and Los Amigos Invisibles among others. - iTunes

"MR. PAUER, Soundtrack (Fabrika)"

mi-based deejay and remixer Pauer works various Latin American “electropical” beats — essentially cumbia, salsa, funk and rock rhythms fused with electronic effects — on this seven-track EP, with Locos Por Juana frontman Itagui’s guest rap on “Cumbión Del Sur” bringing vocal heat to the spicy mix. This otherwise instrumental platter’s steady helping of upbeat global rhythms and corkscrewed sounds (spiraling sirens over riffing accordions, electronic blips spanking deep bass lines) should easily connect with its target audience: club hounds beelining for the dance floor. Venezuelan born Toto González, a.k.a. Mr. Pauer is a big player in Miami’s Latin alternative scene, where he’s been holding it down with Fábrika for a while now. So if you’re from over there, he probably doesn’t need an introduction. But he’s about to start gaining coast-to-coast recognition with his first official release, Soundtrack (out February 15th), an EP of his own electropical productions, including one new cumbia-rap track with hit potential (Locos Por Juana’s Itagüi provides the vocals, download below!)...

"Midwest Records / CD Review"

From Miami it came, a new electro genre blender that's powered by a cat that knows how to twist the knobs but doesn't just use his knowledge to make oontz oontz muzik. There's plenty of bips and beats but there's also a bunch of genre blended walls of sound that come washing in and out as well. - Midwest Records

"Inside World Music"

Mr. Pauer, otherwise known as, Toto Gonzalez, is a Venezuelan-born, Miami-based DJ, producer, and remix king. His latest release, Soundtrack, is the result of a lifetime living amidst tropical locales. The tropical elements of Soundtrack come through on the Spanish vocals and the Latin-beat sound. The electronic sounds and noises perfectly fuse with the tropical beats. Soundtrack's seemingly limited seven-track listing is easily compensated for with shots of diverse dub, funk, electric, cumbia, and Spaghetti Western-type music that fill the soul and move the body. Somewhat instrumental and somewhat vocal, Soundtrack is a groovy release unlike any other. It is fresh, - Matthew Forss

"THE HARD DATA / Mr. Pauer review"

Mr. Pauer is a good example of this. I found out about him last year through Locos Por Juana's Evolución, where he provided the best remix. Now he's releasing his debut album, Soundtrack, with seven freshly squeezed tracks of pure Floridan electropical, not from concentrate. In one of them, Locos Por Juana's frontman Itagui returns the favor by delivering some vocals and the result is the first song of 2011 that I actually liked!
Release date for Soundtrack is Feb 15th. Check on Mr Pauer's website for more info. - Juan Data
