Summary

In 2012, the New Orleans Songwriters Festival brings back the songwriting contest! The Grand Prize is a one day writing session with New Orleans' own successful country and pop writer Jim McCormick, who has cuts by Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood, Trace Adkins, and other major artists. The winner and Mr. McCormick will pick one song to be demoed by the Beaird Music Group of Nashville, TN free of charge (a $700 value). In 2010 most artists in the top 16 were Sonicbids artists./n/nIn 2012, the New Orleans Songwriters Festival brings back the songwriting contest! The Grand Prize is a one day writing session with New Orleans' own successful country and pop writer Jim McCormick, who has cuts by Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood, Trace Adkins, and other major artists. A unique aspect of the contest is that two songs will be accepted for each entry. Either or both songs taken together may result in a winning entry.
In 2010 most artists in the top 16 were Sonicbids artists, including the Grand Prize winner!



While the writing session will be an educational and mentoring session, the songs written will also be bona fide co-writes. As such, if they are great, they have a chance to get cut. The winner and Mr. McCormick will pick one of the songs to be demoed by the Beaird Music Group of Nashville, TN free of charge (a $700 value). Additionally, the curators of the contest will provide critiques of each song submission upon request.

  • Every entrant will get a one-show pass to the 2012 New Orleans Songwriters Festival in New Orleans

  • The top 4 winners will be offered an opportunity to play the 2012 New Orleans Songwriters Festival
  • The top 8 winners will get free entry to the New Orleans Songwriters 2012 Songwriting Workshops

  • The next 16 winners will additionally get a ticket to the Friday Night Blue Nile event during the festival

  • Additional prizes may be announced

  • Bud Tower - Pro Songwriter with cuts by Lynyrd Skynyrd & Hanks Williams, Jr.

  • John Rankin - Pro Songwriter, performer and professor of music and songwriting at Loyola

  • University of New Orleans

Please note: While the New Orleans Songwriters Festival Song Contest is primarily for local songwriters, musicians from anywhere are encouraged to apply. However, the winner must provide his or her own transportation to New Orleans if selected for the Grand Prize or other prizes that involve being in New Orleans.
