Gig Overview
Orphan Records is a boutique record label in downtown Los Angeles that was started in early 2007. Run by musicians and music lovers, it is dedicated to lyrically engaging, pop-inflected music by gifted singer/songwriters and indie rock bands. The Orphan staff gathers each day in an unmarked building and assisted by copious amounts of coffee, music and computers, they toil to bring extraordinary music to the world.
Orphan Records currently has one artist, and is actively looking to expand its roster. They have distribution through a leading independent distributor, which includes a strong digital distribution presence. Additionally they have an in-house publicity and graphics department and extensive contacts in booking, radio and the college market. Compensation and splits will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
The staff's tastes are diverse but tend to shy away from rap, metal, funk and bar rock. If you sound like Celine Dion or the next Justin Timberlake, Orphan Records is probably not a good match. Below are some artists that they do like:
Arcade Fire, Cat Power, Leonard Cohen, The Knife, Rufus Wainwright, The Bird and the Bee, Elliott Smith, AIR, Neutral Milk Hotel, Le Tigre, Jeff Buckley, Regina Spektor, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Silversun Pickups, LCD Soundsystem, Aqualung, Badly Drawn Boy, Wilco, Belle & Sebastian, Bright Eyes, Dresden Dolls, Blonde Redhead, Cold War Kids, The Decemberists, Feist, Joanna Newsom, Keane, Of Montreal, Peter Bjorn & John, Sondre Lerche, Hot Chip, Nirvana, The Rapture and Chet Baker.
