"”Orquesta Tipica - Tango or Death”, juni 2007"

“Twelve guys looking like punk rockers pushing a piano down the street. Their sound is elaborate but raw. Their music is politically committed while historically linked to counterculture; still, it is part of a genre more than a hundred years old. This is their story. This is Buenos Aires 2006.”

- Ur dokumentärfilmen

"Shows, Music-Videos, Films"

“A strong, political message, a “rocker” attitude and a sound that has created the spontaneity cult, all come together in the identity of “La Fierro”.”

- Joost

"Press Journal"

“Orquesta Tipica de Fernandez Fierro, a 12-person orchestra of dreadlocked and wispy-haired spunky hipsters who drive conventional tango to a new level.”

- Caroline Benett, International Fotojournalist.

"Södra Teatern – Stockholm"

“I had the pleasure of accompanying Kat to the Orchestra Tipica Fernandez Fierro show at Joe's Pub the other night. It was fantastic. Very punk rock, but very classically tango too. It was a great way to listen to the MUSIC of tango, without the dancing. Yes, of course, the dancing is key to tango, but this show puts the focus squarely on the unadorned music of it. An extremely unique listening experience. A fantastic way to listen to the accordions, and the string instruments, and the piano accompaniment--to enjoy and luxuriate in that. All the musicians were young, and passionate, which made it that much more interesting--this traditional yet vital form being interpreted by artists who are obviously avant garde.
- Asa Hamneståhl, Producer Södra Teatern – Stockholm

Bio

Orquesta Tipica Fernandez Fierro (OTFF) is the first and most popular orchestra of the so-called New Tango movement that has revolutionized the world’s Tango scene and has inspired a new generation of musicians. With a typical tango orchestra formation (four bandoneons, three violins, a viola, a violoncello, a double-bass, a piano and a singer), an original attitude based on a powerful manner of feeling and performing tango, these young musicians of dreadlocked and wispy-haired spunky hipsters have drive conventional tango to a new level. With their club CAFF (Club Atlético Fernandez Fierro) the Orquesta Tipica has created a successful alternative to the circuit “tango for export”. Set in a transformed warehouse in the legendary Gardel neighborhood in Abasto, ‘La Fierro’ has truly carved a unique place in a very cool space, and has recently accrued an almost cult-like following of diverse fans who come to weekly Wednesday night milongas and regular Saturday night affairs held in the group’s practice space. Due to their peculiar arrangements and solid compositions, their easiness, their colourful outfits and their power at scene, ‘La Fierro’ have not only radically renewed the stiff tango scene of Buenos Aires, shaking its traditional foundations and avoiding its commonplaces but also proved successful abroad during several sold out tours in New York, Mexico, Germany, Holland, France, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and, even, Iceland.
