"Prabir, Palominos and Duchess bombard Toad's Place"

Palominos took the stage with the intensity and conviction that can be scarce following two tight acts. The drummer performed the best solo of the night while the slightly older crowd grooved hard to the band's Johnny Cash-like Southern-rock style. Palominos used a decent blend of vocal harmonies with a 12-bar blues form in several songs that are essential in the Richmond-bar band repertoire.

"Top Tickets"

If these guys sound as good live as they do on record, this might be the week's best show. Remember cowpunk -- Jason and the Scorchers, Lone Justice, et al? The Richmond-based Palominos pick up that torch and make it rock freaking hard, with some interesting neo-Southern rock touches. This band could easily get big, and this would be a good time to catch a show.

"Triple Threat"

"Maybe someday, someone will look back on the show that featured
the Palominos, Emily Easterly and Prabir and the Substitutes the same
way a California-scene veteran living in Laurel canyon probably looks
back on a show that featured Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Joni Mitchell
and the Byrds all on the same bill. Or maybe the show will be sparsely
attended and someone will forget his capo-you can never tell. But how
silly would you feel 30 years later knowing that you passed up a show of such high caliber? Our advice:Take this chance to see three of the
area's best. the Palominos, Emily Easterly and Prabir & the Substitutes
play Bogart's on Thursday."
