“Metal with an increasingly melodic edge; their track 'Swan dive' is pretty epic and heralds a slight change of style. A great live act, featuring superb musicianship and vocal powerhouse in front man Neil Bailey. ”

Mark Pollard - Tenfoot City Magazine

"They are hot and tight and show lots of promise. They have the energy to make it beyond the boundaries of Yorkshire’s East Riding...with the kind of loyal fan base that Hull bands always inspire, I see a busload trekking up and down the country before too long"

Trojan Horse

“Pastel Jack have an immensely unique ability when it comes to song writing; the way that they can freely create a hybrid between Alt Metal, Thrash and Traditional Heavy Metal is truly amazing, and is portrayed excellently on Trojan Horse…This is going to be a must own for pretty much anyone interested in music, Pastel Jack have as much regard for genre boundaries as an illegal immigrant, and that is an extremely positive thing.”

Ghost in the Machine E.P

“What you’ll hear on ‘’Ghost in the Machine’’ are both melodic and aggressive songs, but in a way that no one tried before, as they posses much of the catchiness in combination with full energetic performance and experienced technical skills. ‘’Ghost in the Machine’’ is fluent, soulful and inspiring piece of work filled with positive vibe and musical lightness. Great piece of work!” (10/10)

“They serve up a commercial twist that makes them worthy of time from fans across the spectrum. If you like your metal fresh and done with a difference, check out these guys. 9/10”

"In a new wave of British thrash chockablock with beer bongs and songs about zombies, Pastel Jack have a bit more to them to get your teeth into!"

Detour Magainze

‘Ghost in the Machine’ is a modern thrash release with a vocal delivery quite different to that of the current crop of thrashers, which tends to make the listener feel more comfortable in a traditional British metal outfit rather than a hybrid thrash explosion that these chaps currently produce. At the end of the day, it is all heavy metal and the metal is good, Pastel Jack are worth checking out and a promising band for future rages.

"EP Review from Detour Magazine"

It seems wrong that for most of the noughties the best bands in the U.K came from Wales, and that a country that started Heavy metal should be lagging behind. So to fix this here come Pastel Jack.

The debut E.P from the Hull four piece is the latest addition to the thrash revival that british bands have been pushing for the last couple of years. and it’s a pretty good addition too.

Opener “Condemned From The Start ” shoots straight in with “Euthanasia” era-Megadeth riffing with melodic vocals that hark back to maiden and the NWOBHM sounds. Some nice soloing as well gets things off to a classy start.

But don’t think it’s not all old school either, “Day Like You” & “Part 2? show a more heavy, modern side that helps mix it up. The whole disc sounds classic without being dated or hackneyed and the mix of aggression with heartfelt vocals separates them out from the average thrash revival band that’s still living in 1987.

“Hopeless unity” shows that they can still keep up the intensity even at slower speeds and lets the chugging maiden guitars build things up into a Lamb Of God style breakdown.

"Interview with Steve Rudd from This is 'Ull"

AN INTERVIEW WITH PASTEL JACK

Pastel Jack are a hard-living, fast-rising Metal band from Yorkshire in England. Loudly and proudly rising from the ashes of other bands, the PJ boys have been setting the music scene ablaze with their passionate vocals and streamlined melodies.

Here, in an exclusive interview with Steve Rudd, PJ ringleader Neil Bailey chats about the band's Metal influences, hot dates played in Yorkshire and beyond, and the eagerly anticipated release of their 'Ghost In The Machine' EP...

HEY, HOW YOU DOING?

Hi Steve, we're doing really well. We had a great Xmas and an even better New Year.

YOU ARE A YORKSHIRE-BASED QUINTET. HOW WOULD YOU BEST DESCRIBE THE BRAND OF METAL THAT YOU PLAY?

This is a hard one to describe. We'd probably say Old-Skool Thrash Metal with a modern edge, melodic vocals and harmonies.

HOW MUCH OF AN INFLUENCE HAVE BANDS SUCH AS METALLICA AND GUNS 'N' ROSES BEEN ON YOUR MUSIC?

The Old-Skool Thrash scene has been a massive factor on our music. Pete (our guitarist) takes a lot of influence from Metallica along with modern Thrash scene musicians such as Matt Heafy from Trivium, Mark Tremonti from Alter Bridge and John Petrucci from Dream Theater. Tom (Drums), takes massive influence from Ulrich and Lombardo from Slayer. He also takes a lot of influence from Steve Adler and Matt Soran from Guns 'n' Roses. Dave (Bass), takes a lot of influence from Rob Trujuilo, Victor Wooten and John Myung from Dream Theater. I've taken a lot of influence from Freddie Mercury, Myles Kennedy and even Stephan Jenkins from Third Eye Blind.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CURRENT ROCK AND METAL SCENE IN AND AROUND HULL?

The scene really seems to be moving at the moment. There are still some of the long-running bands playing like Heat Ray, Clown Corpse, Innersylum and some amazing bands starting or continuing their careers such as XIII, Violent Deception and Incubated. We feel pretty lucky to be playing the scene at the moment as we always end up playing with some great bands.

YOU HAVE ALREADY PLAYED IN VARIOUS OTHER BANDS IN THE AREA BEFORE HOOKING UP TO FORM PASTEL JACK. HAVE YOU BEEN SURPRISED AT HOW WELL YOU HAVE WORKED AS A BAND FROM THE OFF?

Well, Dave and Tom are brothers and have been playing together since they were twelve (some pretty bad Green Day covers). They were in a band together called Above It All which Pete finally joined after Tom met him at school so they'd all been playing with each other for a few years. By chance, I'd known Dave and Tom after playing in a band with their cousin for a number of years so everything just seemed to fall into place. It was a little surprising, mainly for me, as I thought it would be difficult joining a band that had been so close for so long but it was really chilled and we all had the same drive and passion so everything else just fell into place.

HAVE YOU HAD CHANCE TO LAY DOWN ANY TUNES IN A RECORDING STUDIO AS YET?

We've been in the process of recording since we met but everything seemed to go wrong, as always seems to be the case. After a few attempts, we went to Rob Hobson at Silent City Studios in Leeds and from there everything went smoothly. We've just released a 6 track EP called 'Ghost In The Machine' and it's on sale now for £3. We're really pleased with it and have some great artwork from Adam Saunders, a local graphic designer in Hull.

WHICH ARE YOUR FAVOURITE VENUES TO PLAY IN THE HULL AREA, AND HAVE YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VENTURE OUT OF YORKSHIRE TO PLAY ANY SHOWS?

We love playing at 'Sharkeys' as the atmosphere in that place is great and the promoter, Darren, really looks after the bands. We also like playing 'The Sesh' at Linnet and Lark as the sound in that place is fantastic and it's a really busy venue.
We played our first out of town gig in Leeds which we followed up with dates in Sheffield, Leicester, York, Manchester and Grimsby.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A BAND OF PASTEL JACK'S NATURE?

It's fantastic being in a band like PJ as we have complete and total freedom to do what we like and move in any direction we want to. Pete is a great songwriter and makes smooth transitions between whatever he's listening to at the time. Having clean vocals with lots of harmonies allows to explore lots of different avenues, but I guess time will tell with what happens. I think that's the most exciting thing about this band.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR 2010 FROM A BAND PERSPECTIVE?

We're going to book loads of out of town gigs and try and get our CD out to everywhere we can. We're also looking forward to writing new material and just getting our name out there.

FINALLY, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY FOR PEOPLE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE BAND, FUTURE RELEASES, AND LIVE DATES?

You can check MySpace (www.myspace.com/pasteljack) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/pasteljack) and www.pasteljack.com

Also, email us on pasteljack@hotmail.co.uk and we'll get back in touch as soon as possible.

'Pastel Jack are a fascinating proposition that may well carry the seeds of future greatness'

- Zero Tolerance Magazine (August 2012)

Dear Sir/Madam,

Pastel Jack are a four piece metal band from Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England. The band consists of Neil Bailey (Vocals), Peter Delaney (Guitar), Dave Cope (Bass) and Tom Cope (Drums). They have been practising and gigging together since late 2007, working with a relentless intensity to book and promote gigs, manage their own websites, create their own videos and do their own PR.

Pastel Jack formed in February 2007; Pete, Tom and Dave having worked together for a number of years in other bands. The line up was completed eight months later when Neil returned to the area after university.

Pastel Jack mix their own style of heavy metal and catchy melodies with a progressive touch. After wowing audiences across Britain with a huge passion for what they do, Pastel Jack entered the studio to record their debut E.P ‘Ghost in the Machine', to which it received numerous positive reviews. Following on the success of this, the band entered the studio again in 2011 to record their first full length album, 'Trojan Horse'. The band have recorded a full length video to accompany their first single, 'Methematic'. The band have recently released 'Swan Dive' as a new video in July 2012.

With these recordings under their belt, Pastel Jack began to entertain audiences on a grander scale, playing the original stage at Tribfest, Europe’s biggest tribute festival, as well as headlining slots at Bradford Gasworks and other local venues around the Hull and Yorkshire area. The band has been fortunate enough to share the stage with some bigger names, supporting Blitzkrieg on their 30th anniversary tour, Zico Chain, Sarah Jezebel Deva, Beholder and many up and coming bands such as Evil Scarecrow and Sworn Amongst.

Pastel Jack have established themselves as a band with a passion to create heavy metal, mixing styles from the new wave of heavy metal bands such as Trivium, Alter Bridge and Avenged Sevenfold, through to Iron Maiden and Metallica. Pastel Jack are aiming to put their mark on the British music scene, already impressing audiences with their high energy performances and tight live shows.

Pastel Jack intend to push forward further into 2012 with their own brand of heavy metal, building a following wherever they play and pushing their debut album, 'Trojan Horse'. With an abundance of songs already prepared for their next recording, booked in for April 2013, a passion for the stage and a constant love for what they do, Pastel Jack are hoping to see things turn their way in the near future.
