"WMMR on-air personality Jaxon says..."

"I've seen them twice, both times I thoroughly enjoyed them, and I think they do a great show." - 93.3 WMMR - Philadelphia, PA

"WSTW's Mark Rogers says..."

"Outset is a band that literally made a fan of me on the very first listen. Call them rock, call them alternative, call them power pop--whatever label you use, they have an amazing knack for recording catchy, memorable songs. They also put on a great live show. I believe Outset is one of the top bands in the Delaware Valley. They have a loyal following, and have been among the most consistently requested and best-received bands I've played on 'Hometown Heroes.' If there is any justice in this musical world, they will soon be a force to be reckoned with in the national music scene." - 93.7 WSTW - Wilmington, DE

"On the Outset"

“[S]traight ahead pop rock even your mom will love.” - The Metro - Philadelphia

"Review - Define a New Beginning"

OutSet nails the 90's college rock scene with their new disc, Define a New Beginning... this record is very cleanly produced and played, possibly soundtracking a number of feel-good movies yet to be made... the lead guitar work is worth special mention, both in creativity and execution. - Origivation Magazine May 2006

"Review - Dreaming Out Loud"

I found myself tapping my foot to this record. If good, clean, all-american stories articulated through ear-friendly music is what you crave, my friend you have found your oasis... the instrumentation and production are top notch... Vocalist, Phil Murphy has a very unique delivery, the kind you can get your arms around... there is something on there for everyone. - Origivation Magazine December 2007

Bio

Philadelphia native, Phil Murphy is a singer-songwriter that fuses a multitude of genres to form his melodic rock sound. His brand of rock/pop mixed with hints of americana and folk create a truly cross generational listening experience. Influenced by Lifehouse, the Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20, and Ryan Adams, Phil believes music should be about melody as a form of emotional and artistic expression. As the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for his former band, Outset, Phil was voted Best Frontman of a local act by 93.7 WSTW. Together Outset recorded two full length albums, opened for a number of national acts, and maintained consistent radio play in the Tri State area. After the band split, Phil traveled to Nashville, TN and produced two albums, an EP and his full length debut “Upside Down World. Thus far songs “See You Again,” “Upside Down World,” and “Yesterday Night” have received airplay from radio stations across the Philly market. For purposes of live performance he calls on Phil Murphy and the Great Escape consisting of Phil on lead vocals and guitar, Joe Woods on bass, Frank DiElsi on drums, Fred Lahm on Sax, and Marlena Rudzinski on Piano.
