Resistance is a band that could embrace many genres of music fans with heart pounding music. Their music is in the style of Primal Fear and Grave Digger. Resistance has released their first full length debut CD called "Lies in Black". Let me tell you first, what a great cover! Four angels with wings sitting on a smoke covered log with one angel being demonic. Their music is fast paced with heavy guitar licks. They open their CD with an excerpt of the “Star Spangled Banner.”. Track five "Wasted Time" is one hell of a track, showing the versatility of the band. The song starts off melodic then racing into a bombardment of guitar riffs, vocalist Robbie Hett sounding like a harsh Mark Slaughter. This debut CD has great potential and I hope to hear more from the band. Some of the tracks that I would recommended a listen to are; "Wasted Time, “Bridge to Nowhere" and "Till Dust Return”. Resistance won the Best Metal Band Award of 2004 at the 10th Annual Rock City News Music Awards. In addition, Robbie Hett was nominated for Best Vocalist while Paul Shingo was nominated for Best Bassist.

When Resistance sent me their Demo a couple of years ago, I wasn’t that impressed to be honest. But when Paul Shigo (bass) sent me their self financed full-length album Lies In Black a month back I was blown away with what the boys from Resistance had accomplished since then. The 8 tracks on Lies In Black have a hard melodic edge to them with a spontaneous live essence, while the production is top notch. Resistance describes their music as pure American Metal and I have to agree as Resistance has all the power of Pantera and the wankery of Iron Maiden. Theirs no doubt that Resistance have a bright future ahead of them if only they the chance. To get a copy of Lies In Black for only $10 + 1 s&h go the Resistance website.

Resistance (U.S.)- "Lies In Black" (2004 self)

California still continues to give us some great bands even though it doesn't flourish like the old days of 3,000 Metal labels in the 80's to keep up with all the bands that were coming out. Anymore, most of them stay independent or the labels are too trendy to sign real Metal, so it's up to the underground and its base.

I reviewed this 5-piece mosh machine in the past and they seem to get better with each and every release they unveil. "Lies In Black" is a short and sweet 28½ minutes with 8 tracks but the delivery and intensity are constant. Heavy-ass riffing with superb leadwork are the knack on this album that is nothing short of good technical songwriting.

If you break this release down, it would be considered an EP since there's six actual songs and two of them are intros. I didn't care though and the vocals of Robbie Hett are somewhere in the ballpark of DiAnno, Gillan and Sebastian Bach and work well within Resistance's arsenal of influences of Maiden and Exodus with my personal opinion on bands like Wrath, Hades and Agent Steel. They also remind me of another Californian band from Pacific Palisades by the name of Prototype. Regardless of my opinion, "Lies In Black" smokes and needs your quick attention at once! www.resistancemetal.com

RESISTANCE
Lies In Black
Eigen beheer

English Translation:

On several metal forums I have read, from European and American metalheads, the American metal scène has not so many true metal bands. This is just so wrong, believe me but I agree only nu metal and death metal are getting support in the States. I assure you there is a lot of talent in America, for example Resistance, an unknown band I have learnt about on the Internet. They have released an album, without any support, entitled “Lies in black”. I must admit I have never seen such a good product from an unsigned band before; the cd, the booklet and the production are just awesome. Musical wise Resistance is very promising, ‘pure American metal’, as you can read on their website and that is so true…Resistance stands for metal with a lot of power and with a lot of melody, also thanks to the voice of Robbie Hett. Very impressing are the two guitar-players, playing very powerful and rough riffs and solo’s from which I suppose a lot of guitarists from famous bands would be jealous. Resistance plays music between (US) power and thrash and reminds me to Nevermore, Flotsam & Jetsam, Antithesis and the unknown but amazing Catch 22. If with such a debut Resistance will not get signed with a label I suppose there’s something terrible wrong with our metal scène. But…Catch 22 didn’t get what they deserved either and I’m still pissed of because of it. 8 songs, a reason to rate this album and I advise you to surf, as soon as possible to www.resistancemetal.com and order this cd for only 10 dollars.

Bio

RESISTANCE IS THE COLLABORATIVE EFFORT OF ITS MEMBERS, COMBINING EACH MEMBER’S TALENT, EXPERIENCE, TASTES AND PHILOSOPHIES INTO ONE MUSICAL VISION. RESISTANCE WAS BORN OUT OF PAUL, MATT, DAN AND E.F.’S LOVE FOR HEAVY MUSIC AND THEIR DESIRE TO ONCE AGAIN BECOME CREATIVELY INVOLVED IN IT. THEIR FRIENDSHIP AND MUSICAL EXPERIENCE BEGAN IN THEIR FORMATIVE HIGH SCHOOL YEARS. DURING THIS TIME THESE CORE MEMBERS PLAYED IN SEVERAL BANDS TOGETHER AND EVOLVED INTO A COHESIVE UNIT. AFTER YEARS OF PLAYING TOGETHER AND RECORDING, THE FOUR FRIENDS BECAME DISILLUSIONED BY THE MUSIC SCENE TOWARDS THE END OF THE 90’S. EVENTUALLY PAUL, MATT, DAN AND E.F. PARTED WAYS AND BEGAN EXPLORING DIFFERENT PATHS IN THEIR LIVES. AT THE ONSET OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM THE FOUR CAME TOGETHER AGAIN WITH A RENEWED MUSICAL PASSION AND A NEW VISION. STILL UNHAPPY WITH THE CURRENT POPULAR TREND OF HEAVY MUSIC THE NAME RESISTANCE WAS CHOSEN AS A STATEMENT OF THEIR PHILOSOPHY TO RESIST POPULAR TRENDS AND WRITE MUSIC FOR THEMSELVES. PAUL’S BROTHER TIM WAS THEN SELECTED AS THE VOCALIST FOR RESISTANCE AS THE GROUP SAW A FRESH UNTAPPED TALENT IN HIM. ARMED WITH THEIR NEW VISION AND DEDICATION, RESISTANCE EXPLODED ONTO THE LOCAL METAL SCENE AND OVER THE COURSE OF TWO YEARS DEVELOPED A STRONG FOLLOWING AND ESTABLISHED THEMSELVES AS A DOMINANT PRESENCE IN THE L.A. METAL UNDERGROUND. AS THE BANDS POPULARITY GREW SO DID A PROBLEM WITH TIM’S VOICE AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HE HAD DEVELOPED NODES ON HIS VOCAL CHORDS. A VERY TOUGH DECISION WAS MADE THAT IT WOULD BE IN TIM’S BEST INTEREST TO STEP DOWN AND NOT CONTINUE. THE DECISION WAS FULLY SUPPORTED BY EACH MEMBER AND TIM’S CONTRIBUTIONS ARE STILL A PART OF RESISTANCE. IN A TWIST OF FATE A NEW VOCALIST (ROBBY HETT) FELL INTO THEIR LAPS AND QUICKLY PROVED TO BE A VIABLE NEW MEMBER. ROBBY BRINGS A DYNAMIC NEW VOICE TO THE MUSIC OF RESISTANCE ALONG WITH A SOLID MUSICAL HISTORY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SHARES THE SAME MUSICAL VISION. RESISTANCE HAS HAD THE PLEASURE OF SHARING THE STAGE WITH EXODUS,AGENT STEEL,HELLOWEEN, SUPER JOINT RITUAL, JAG PANZER, PRONG, ENGINE, INTO ETERNITY, BEYOND THE EMBRACE, PRIMAL FEAR, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM DEATH ANGEL, L.A. GUNS, EDGUY, METAL CHURCH AND MANY OTHERS WITH A RENEWED APPETITE RESISTANCE CONTINUE TO STEAM ROLL THEIR METAL MACHINE FORWARD AND DELIVER THE VERY BEST OF PURE AMERICAN METAL.....
