FODfest is an annual concert tour which honors the life and ideals of the late Wall St. Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, and celebrates music as a universal language and community building platform. In addition to being a journalist, Danny was a talented musician who played in bands and jammed with people the world over. Now in its fourth year, FODfest takes place every October as part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days which is organized by the Daniel Pearl Foundation and celebrates Harmony for Humanity. FOD is an acronym for Friends of Danny and the tour features musicians who knew Danny and played music with him while he was alive and many who never knew him, but connect with his story.

FODfest is a unique performance format that is part concert, part jam session, and part song-swap. Most of the musicians performing are meeting for the first time on stage. Steel Tree Films, founded by Mike Stivala, is a multi-award winning, multi-national, mutli-faceted, double-jointed content creation company based in New York, Eastern Pennsylvania and Los Angeles. Stivala is known for his work with HBO, The Discovery Channel and The History Channel, including 3-Emmy's. His independent film, "Rat Bastard", has won several awards.

Hillers is their groundbreaking new six part internet series. They are currently in pre-production with shooting scheduled to begin in August. The first episode will be streaming for free in early 2009.

Steel Tree Films is now seeking music for licensing consideration in Hillers. They are looking for quirky, offbeat music that is out of the ordinary. There is at least 1 slot reserved for a Sonicbids artist and any selected artists will receive a flat fee license and retain ownership of their music. Selected artists will also receive full screen credit, a copy of the finished product and featured link on the Hillers website. I'm Too Young For This! Vol. 2 will mirror its award-winning predecessor by featuring 21 original tracks from artists with uniquely inspiring personal journeys. Over 50,000 copies of the compilation will be distributed as a promotional tool for the organization. This is a great opportunity for artists to get exposure and become part of this supporting community.

The foundation is the nation's fastest growing advocacy, support and research organization working exclusively on behalf of survivors and care providers under the age of 40. Last year they were honored with a TIME Magazine Best 50 Website'.

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival is an exhilarating three-week celebration of performing arts, outdoor entertainment and community spirit that attracts more than 60,000 people each year. Top of the Park is the beloved annual outdoor music and movie series produced by the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. Songs With Vision is looking for cover songs in all genres that raise social awareness. All songs must be unique versions of familiar songs and will be considered for licensing in advertisements, as well as a compilation CD. Compensation for advertisement licensing is a 50/50 split on the master license and a minimum $150 for master rights for the compilation.

The tendency of the world to win' by a show of force should be a central focus of songs. Although that songs that feature a show of solidarity for a more global state and personal support or loss due to those showings of force are also accepted. Submitted songs do not need to be overtly about war itself.

An example of a song on the social side would be Bryan Ferry's version of Bob Dylan's "Hard Rain's Gonna Fall." Other examples of artists include Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan and others whose words are admonitions to the causes of war. Beyond the obvious protest and politically charged themes, songs like "Stand By Me", "Home" by Daughtry, and Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" are other good examples of accepted songs.

The 61st Annual Ozark Folk Festival, the country's longest continuously running folk festival, returns this fall on November 6th-9th, 2008. It includes a lineup of fourteen performers, free concerts, Songwriters in the Round performances, a songwriting contest, and Ozarks arts and crafts booths and demonstrations.

The Ozark Folk Festival is currently accepting submissions for their Singer/Songwriter Contest that takes place during the festival. 6 finalists will be selected from Sonicbids submissions, with 1 grand prize winner. Only folk artists will be accepted.

The first place winner will receive an $800 cash prize. All 6 finalists will receive a travel stipend of $200 per group/soloist and one all event pass per performer.

Songs will be judged upon submission and the top six songwriters/performers will be scheduled to perform in a finals competition in Basin Park on Saturday, November 8th. Each band must play at least three (3) tunes, and no more than five (5). Each band will have a limit of 15 minutes or the end of their selections: whichever comes first.

Judges will score performances on: originality and uniqueness, song structure, prosody (fit of words and music), memorability, talent, and stage presence.

What's Really Good? Wednesdays is a weekly music series occurring at The Underground in Greensboro, NC. They are looking for urban artists to perform including hip hop and R&B. Compensation is provided.

Myhouse Entertainment and Esoterica Entertainment started the music series to put a spotlight on the independent hip-hop scene. They book four artists each Wednesday and set times range from 20-30 minutes. The venue can hold up to 250 people and artists are encouraged to have a local draw, but their promotions team works to bring in a steady crowd. There is no backline, but there is a PA and sound engineer available. This music series is a great gig for independent hip-hop artists.

Old Dominion University After Dark: Music on the Mall is a free late night event for students at Old Dominion University and open to the general public.

"After our submission was accepted, Filter contacted us personally to say how much they enjoyed our music and expressed interest in signing us to their label. We've since put out an EP through them, played some cool Filter Presents shows and had a chance to play the Filter Party at Cedar St. during SXSW 2008. They've also hooked us up with some great promo opportunities, and they help us with publicity and marketing."

The only requirement for selection is that the artist has some sort of body of recordings. Existing press is a plus but not required.

Global Rhythm Magazine sponsors World Music Song Contest, taking place 8 times per year. MIDEM Talent is a global event focused on discovering and developing artists in today's new music business environment.

With a dedicated venue for talent showcases, a conference track and networking events, MIDEM Talent will enable you to discover new acts, interact with key artist-development professionals and learn about innovative ways to promote talent.

MIDEM Talent is dedicated to all those involved in the artistic process, from creation to the stage, from A&R to booking agents and festival organizers; and beyond.

Around 15 official Showcases will be presented from Sunday 18 to Wednesday 21 January in MIDEM Talent venue from noon to 2.00pm and from 7.00pm to midnight, in Cannes, France.

Presentation Of The Offer: An opportunity for international acts of all genres and styles to perform at MIDEM, Cannes, France.

All requests to perform at MIDEM Talent venue are submitted via the Sonicbids website (see conditions)
All requests go through a selection process
The selection process will be undertaken by MIDEM and will be based on artistic merit
Several cycles of showcases will be held in the framework of other sponsorships or of specific artistic directions from January 18 to 21
The submission opening date is September 1, 2008
The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2008
All acts will be informed of their status by the end of November 2008
The time and date of each individual showcase will be allocated by MIDEM

Conditions For Submitting An Act: Submissions must be made online via the Sonicbids website. To submit an artist/group:

The person or company submitting the artist or group must subscribe to Sonicbids (All submission fees are non-refundable)
The artist/group must be signed to a label
The artist/group must have a verifiable experience of 10 live performances
The artist/group must have no more than 7 artists onstage
Each artist must be 18 years old or over
The artist/group must be available to perform at MIDEM Talent Only in Cannes, France on the date allocated for the showcases
The artist/group must sign a contract with MIDEM before their performance at MIDEM Talent (for French administrative purposes and to be paid the legal salary by MIDEM)

What MIDEM Offers - MIDEM Talent:A selection of slots from January 18 to January 21, 2009 midday to 2.00pm and 7.00pm to midnight, Cannes, France

A 40-minute slot for a private showcase (with a maximum of 7 artists/musicians) during MIDEM
Venue: MIDEM Talent venue (capacity: 450)
Basic equipment (lighting and sound)
Technical staff
Line-check
Basic catering
Dressing room
Ground transportation (Nice airport/hotel/venue/Nice return)
One night's hotel accommodation and continental breakfast in a 3* hotel for all acts whose place of residence is within Europe; two nights for artists whose place of residence is outside Europe. A room sharing policy is applied but each act is considered individually.
A basic legal salary per performing artist: approximately 95 (ninety-five Euros) per performing artist and 69 (sixty-nine Euros) per technician (with all proper reserves regarding legal employer contributions 2009) and the administrative papers involved (this involves each performing artist/technician signing a contract with MIDEM)
A mention of the showcase with the artist's/group's name in a global MIDEM Talent advertising page to appear in the MIDEM official pre-market "Preview" magazine, sent to all participants who have registered before December 15, 2008
A mention of the showcase with the artist's/group's name in a global MIDEM Talent advertising page to appear in the MIDEM official daily magazine "The News" distributed on the day of their showcase to the entire MIDEM market
Listing of the showcase with the artist's/group's name in the official MIDEM programmes, notably: www.midem.com, Official schedule of events, "mini-programme", poster on the day of the event, roll-up in the venue...
The inclusion of the artist's/group's biography/discography and professionals goals on the new matchmaking website, MIDEMworld
The inclusion of one title/song on MIDEMworld for the year to come till October 2009
Free registration to the MIDEM market for the performing artist/group (maximum seven people)
Free registration to the MIDEM market for the artist/group's Tour Manager (one person only)
Listing of the artist/group's manager in the MIDEM guide 2009

The artist/group must subscribe to Sonicbids if not already a member (All submission fees are non-refundable)
The artist/group must accept to participate in the financial costs of the production of the showcase for the sum of 1,700 before taxes (one thousand seven hundred Euros exclusive of French VAT at 19.6%) per showcase (only payable if their submission is selected)
The artist's label's representative accepts to register for MIDEM 2009 if the submission is selected (cost from 745 before 17 November to 1,095 onsite before taxes)
The artist/group must cover all transport costs for themselves and the artist/group to and from Nice, France
The artist/group must obtain visas for themselves and the artist/group
The artist/group must ensure that each performing artist signs a contract with MIDEM before their performance (for French administrative purposes and to enable the artist/group to be paid the legal salary by MIDEM)

Each year Kurt H Promotions hosts an intimate music festival in Jackson, NJ. This year marks the third anniversary of Jamfest. Last year the festival attracted over 1,000 people over the three day festival. Jamfest 3 will feature 2 stages and nearly 25 artists for nonstop entertainment. This year, Jamfest 3 will be held at the Central Italian American Club in Jackson, NJ on Saturday June 20, 2009.

Jamfest 3 is now accepting submissions from Sonicbids artists for general performance consideration. Artists will be provided with up to 75 tickets ($15 value each) to be sold at their discretion, artists keep 100% of the profits.
