Hardcore Music. Its been defined over and over again, changing forms usually as the new trend starts. Even most of the bands jump ship when a new term or style is determined, leaving unfinished songs and forgotten genres. Leaving no time for the bands music to even develop into something great and separate themselves from those dreaded trends. But there are still a select few who stay loyal to the original style born on the east coast and one specifically in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rule of Thumb is the Name and Hardcore is their weapon of choice. The lead singer and bassist, Kenny Thumb, defines hardcore music best, “It's like this, Hardcore, Punk, Metal, etc. is for everyone. Fuck what ya heard, Hardcore is not an exclusive club for scene kids trying to be cool or tough guys looking to beat up on not so tough guys or about any one individual.” Kenny goes on to say another key point, and something that gets missed along the way, “Hardcore is about Unity.” One thing this amazing band hasn’t done, is follow along with those fateful trends nor do they sacrifice substance for short winded, what-have-you-done-for-me-now popularity. They continue to stay the course as a whiskey fueled irish terror, with relevant lyrics and intense brutal breakdowns spawning mosh pits instantly and often. You’ll even see some fancy kicks and windmills at some shows, just watch them elbows little ones. When you do get a chance to see them live, Kenny urges, “Check out EmoSexual(its more about accepting yourself as you are than you might think) or catch us at one of our shows doing a Brittney Spears or Cristina Aguilara cover.” Boasting an ever growing fan base here in town and regionally in parts of Cali and Arizona, Rule of Thumb are capitalizing on each opportunity, big or small and leaves a tremendous impact on those who catch the show. Just over the past six months Rule of Thumb has opened for Ill Nino, and headlined Jillians twice, proving time and time again they deserve to be considered amongst the top bands in Las Vegas. Powered by tenacious promotions both on the street and online, they personally reach out to as many people possible knowing that the most important part of being in a band is their original music being heard and spread. They make it sound so easy, “We have no needless filler, you will not find any solos or pointless catchy hooks here. We play straight forward, in your face Hardcore & Punk with brutal breakdowns and honest lyrics. Our songs are about what we know, the trials and tribulations we have been through. We talk about loss, violence, emptiness, alcohol(lots of this one), but we also have a sense of humor about ourselves.” To fully understand the Rule of Thumb experience, catch them live performing crowd anthems like “DFFD” and “Handout”. Throughout the live set, Kenny and Chance will take you through the four rules of life. #1 Rule – Every Body DRINKS…. And at their shows it’s mandatory, at least a cola if your a non-alcholic patron. Rule #2 – Everybody FUCKS, that’s kinda self explanatory. Rule #3 every body FIGHTS… come one who hasn’t either screamed their ass off at someone or even whooped a chump?? And finally, from the pesky, rude attendant at the front desk, to the nicest grannys on earth, Rule #4 -everybody DIES. So live the rules….. well three of them in a night isn’t bad, and catch them live in Las Vegas May 10th at the Cheyenne Saloon with locals Stay Cold, diM and Arizona band Howitzer, and The Rox June 14th w/ Thirty Round Clip of Cali, Howitzer and a few surprise guests. During this span they will also be reaching Phoenix, Arizona for an all ages show on May 31st at Joes Grotto. If you cant make it out to an upcoming show or want to help support Rule of Thumb, you can hear and even buy their music online now at myspace.com/lvruleofthumb.

Bio

It's like this, Hardcore, Punk, Metal, etc. is for everyone. Fuck what ya heard, Hardcore is not an exclusive club for scene kids trying to be cool or tough guys looking to beat up on not so tough guys or about any one individual. There is a million different styles of music out there and probably a million different ways to play it. Hardcore is about Unity. Rule of Thumb is about 3 guys from 3 different backgrounds coming together as one for a common love of hardcore as we interpret it. We have no needless filler, you will not find any solos or pointless catchy hooks here. We play straight forward, in your face Hardcore & Punk with brutal breakdowns and honest lyrics. Our songs are about what we know, the trials and tribulations we have been through. We talk about loss, violence, emptiness, alcohol(lots of this one), but we also have a sense of humor about ourselves. Check out EmoSexual(its more about accepting yourself as you are than you might think) or catch us at one of our shows doing a Brittney Spears or Cristina Aguilara cover. The current lineup has been together since Jan 09 and are regulars on the Vegas bar scene and are breaking into the all ages scene here one kid at a time. We tour through the west and the south whenever we can and are looking to extend further to the east by the end of this year.
