"Georgia Music News - Shathouse Rats Blurb"

Not sure what I expected from a band called Shathouse Rats, but it sure wasn't the unhinged, primal hoodoo they conjure. The spirit of Jeffrey Lee Pierce informs their six-song CD, Blood On Yer Shoes. Dark psycho blues from the shady side of the cemetery. - Stomp and Stammer

Bio

“Not sure what I expected from a band called Shathouse Rats, but it sure wasn't the unhinged, primal hoodoo they conjure…Dark psycho blues from the shady side of the cemetery.” – Stomp and Stammer August 2010

The band began as a duo with Matt Shat on lead vocals, guitar, & foot drums while, Byronius Junk played organ, keys, and kicked bass with his feet. They recorded the first EP as a duo and did some shows that way too. Stomp and Stammer also said of the first EP, “The spirit of Jeffrey Lee Pierce informs their six-song CD, Blood On Yer Shoes.”

Midway through a fabled show, Shat declared that it was time to “fire the drummer.” Shortly after, Trey LeTrash joined Shathouse Rats on drums, thunder toms, and trashy cymbals and two became three. The soul punk music emanating from this trio is garage rock soul birthed from a gnarly stew of Sun, Stax, and Goner records that was brewed by the spring reverb gods. Radioblivion DJ Michael Kaiser says, “they got a swampy stompin sound that I dig and you should too!”

Nobody's sons singing everyman's anthems. Atlanta’s own Shathouse Rats offer their brand of garage party heartache with a healthy disrespect for authority. Too much noise for three boys coming from junky reverb-soaked guitars, Hammond organ, and pre-apocalyptic drums. Matt Shat and the Shathouse Rats keep it raw, ready, dixie and hell. Hear 'em Holler!
