Gig Overview
Atomic Mouse Recordings is a small Chicago-based label that sprang out of the DIY music resources offered by dv polymedia, inc.
We are now calling for submissions for our second "Sound In A Vacuum" compilation CD. There are a minimum of 3 slots guaranteed to Sonicbids users, but we are anticipating using 10-15 submissions. This series of compilations is designed to draw attention to a variety of artists/recordings in a compact way. It is a "soft-sell" item, focusing on the serendipity of discovery rather than hype.
AMR specializes in roots/Americana, novelty, electronic, experimental, "savant", and other weird rock; but all genres are desirable for the compilation if the track in question is somehow unusual rather than typifying in its genre. This is an excellent opportunity for music that usually "falls through the cracks".
Selected artists will NOT be charged to be on the compilation as this is not a "pay for placement" situation. The CD is promotional in nature and most copies will be given away to media, music stores, and other people we mail things to on a regular basis. Most of the recipients of the CD will be in the US, but a portion of discs will be sent internationally.
Artists will receive 5 copies of the CD and can obtain additional copies at $2/unit. The initial run will be no less than 1000 copies. The CD will only be available commercially in limited quantities and at a budget price. It is intended as indirect marketing to draw attention to what you already do, not as a money-maker in its own right. In the unlikely event the CD goes into additional pressings as a retail-oriented item, profit sharing will be established for the artists (a 50% net share distributed equally between the artists). The possibility of secondary opportunities also exist. For example, artists on Volume One have appeared at AMR-produced showcases.
It should also be noted that we have a particular soft-spot for strange cover versions. However, cover versions will only be accepted if the artist is willing to pay the mechanical royalties up front (roughly $85).
