"Room For Cream @ the DNA Lounge"

"...the floorboards shake from the foot stomping and i dance my way through swirling skirts to be avalanched by hugs while hobo burlesque happens on stage with live accordion soundtrack and a darn good use of some cans of beans... "

from 1/2/09 Baxtalo Drom/Hubba Hubba Revue show at the DNA Lounge , San Francisco, Ca - annonymous from LiveJournal

"Review of Jodi Waseca, March 2008"

"Jodi Waseca, who absolutely wowed the audience last year with her
inventive, elaborate interpretive dancing, was no less brilliant this year
with a series of dances as a bored late-night janitor who discovers a trunk
full of costumes and is inspired to try them on and become those different
characters."
AVA, 3/08

"Absolutely one of the best acts the AV Variety Show has ever seen. What a great piece, I loved every minute of it."

Bio

My interest in dance has been passionate. It began at age 3 with Tap and Jazz, and as the years progressed, my training grew to include Modern, Salsa, Ballet, and Hip Hop. I have studied Flamenco with world renowned teacher, La Tania, and Laban/Bartinieff fundamentals with Jenna Byrne. When I became aware of Middle Eastern classes in my small hometown I jumped at the chance and haven't stopped learning and performing belly dance in the past 13 years.

After teaching classes in hip hop, jazz, and modern for a number of years, in the summer of 2005 I had the opportunity to take over an established dance school in Laytonville, California. For a year and a half I directed and instructed 60+ students and a staff of 2-5 teachers.

I have included fire performance in my repertoire for the past 5 years, starting in Illumination Fire Troupe as co/choreographer. I attended classes on fire eating, breathing and safety at the Crucible Industrial Arts Center in Oakland, CA. I feel very solid in my use of static tools (collapsible fans, candles, fingers, parasols, eating, and breathing) to enhance any performance where fire is allowed. Recently, the dance forms in which I have included fire are Tribal Fusion Belly Dance and a Ballet/Modern peice (with toe shoes).

"Room For Cream" is the endeavor that I have co-created with accordion extraordinaire, JD Limelight. Steeped in the traditions spanning from gypsy caravans to burlesque shenanigans, our improvisational song and dance performances have delighted audiences all over California with our touch of theatre and a love of all things vaudeville.

I have performed at numerous clubs, events, bellydance festivals and restaurants in Northern California and beyond, most notably Earthdance, Burning Man (with the Pyronauts fire Conclave), Culture Fest (West Virginia), Rakassah, Amira Resturaunt, Tribal Café and Fest, and the DNA Lounge and Amnesia in San Francisco. I was a special guest performer in a Tribal Fusion Belly Dance showcase featuring Zoe Jakes, Elizabeth Strong and Mira Betz, as well as performing in another showcase with Frederique David and Ya Habibi Bellydance. I was first runner up in the Double Crown Belly Dance Competition 2008 Scarab category. I will be teaching a workshop at the Redwood Coast Bellydance Fest in Arcata, Ca, in the fall of 2009. I perform with Troupe Joweh, a fusion bellydance group under the direction of TerriAnne Gutierrez, in Santa Rosa, Ca.

I am also a good eater and like cats.
