Summary

The WAMi Festival is Western Australia's annual celebration and showcase of local music. Last year’s festival had over 25,000 attendees. When submitting to WaMi, your submission will be considered for all of the following:

Showcases



Over 100 local acts will be showcased from 15 - 24 February, 2008!

There’s The Saturday Spectacular Northbridge Music Festival on Saturday Feb 23 from midday to very late, in venues all over Northbridge. Truly an ExtravaWAMza of local music.



The WAMi Awards will be held on Thursday Feb 21. The industry’s night of nights.

There will also be Pub/Club showcases all throughout WAMi week.

WAM will be hosting genre showcases in partnership with local music organisations in the following genres: Jazz, Pop, Blues, Punk, Electronic / Dance, Rock, Funk, Hardcore, World Music and more. There will be all ages shows at Yac-A-Toa - Victoria Park; Boomshanka – Bayswater; and RAMMPAAGE gigs galore.



Regional tours - At least 5 separate regions will be visited in February, March and beyond.



Additionally, in 2008, Perth will host a large contingent of local, interstate and international music industry professionals. WAM is already actively promoting attendance throughout the world, and will again be staging a conference and networking opportunities to help you connect with these guys, and get them to your gig.

All local artists selected to perform will be given a retainer.

Artists who have previously played the WaMi Festival include Bernard Carney, Rhibosome, Karnivool, Gyroscope, The John Butler Trio, Hip Mo’ Toast, Kerrianne Cox, Matt de la Hunty, The Pigram Brothers, Greg Packer, Vdelli, The Panics, Fdel, The Panda Band, Jebediah, End Of Fashion, The Sleepy Jackson, Eskimo Joe, Blue Shaddy, Ziggy Bey Zan Band, Ronni Rae Rivers, Downsyde, Little Birdy, Tetrafide Percussion and the Michael Pigneyguy Sextet. And those are just twenty five of the literally hundreds and hundreds of local acts that have been a part of The WAMis since its inception in1994.

Kiss My WAMi CD/DVD

If selected, you will be part of WAM's 4 disc set consisting of 3 genre specific CDs programmed into genre groupings and 1 DVD with music video clips. The set receives massive exposure through triple j, NOVA 937 and other local commercial radio, and community radio across Australia as part of the leadup to the WAMi Festival. The set will be distributed in mid-January 2008 to media, industry (labels, publishers, agents, promoters, associations etc) across Australia and internationally (via WAM’s international mailing list and through trade events such as South by Southwest & MIDEM); via Austrade network to potential buyers across the globe; to WAM members; to key government people etc …4000 copies will be out there working for you, for WAM and for the local industry.

Outcomes from being included can range from airplay and touring opportunities, to placement in film/TV opportunities. WAM is seeking direct outcomes like this more and more as our networks grow.

Even if you are not selected for a gig or the compilation, we will be posting the content submitted for an online profile of each and every act that applies. Everyone’s a winner.
