popVLTR: You've been making moves in Minsk, how'd you get into music? Weesp: [Lex] We've formed the band in school (2003-2004), learning how to play some covers of famous songs in a garage (Muse, radiohead, nirvana, mettalica, etc.). There were few gigs of famous bands in Minsk at that time, so we've always looked in 'western direction'. Being a real band, playing live, making records - that was just a dream for us first. And now I cant really describe you the whole way we had to pass to become Weesp as it is today. And even now we feel as we're just at the beginning of our path as musicians. [Mi]: All my life i take a great interest of different music. At the age of 15 I started playing the bass guitar with a dream of a rock-band, as happens to many. Met with the guys – vocalist Alex “Lex” Falco and guitarist Michael “Mike” Zalutski (then they have already played together) - and away we go. A few years later, when we already had a band - Weesp – I brought my twin brother – Stanislau “Stak” Budko (at that time he was the guitar player of several bands) to the position of an electronics\synth guy. There were a few changes of drummers in Weesp (we had 4 drummers), but the final member of collective is the one and only god of drums - Alex «Gul» Galesnik. He joined the team in 2011 and plays with us till now.

popVLTR: Congrats on 'Caves', who are some of your influences? Weesp: [Mi]: Thank you, glad to hear that. Caves was originally released on our album «taste of steel». In early 2013, during the locally famous hurricane “Xavier”, which covered the entire country by 3 meters of snow, we were sitting at home with acoustic instruments and jammed on the basis of our old songs. Loved the sound of originally rock song - Caves in the acoustic version - with acoustic guitars, fretless acoustic bass and hand drums - congas and bongos. Decided to record this track live and release regular, filmed on almost a phone promo video for our fans, where the live is recorded. We came to the studio - and liked the overall sound so much , that we decided to make a track-by-track recording and even film not live, but a full musical video for it, which, in our opinion, will reflect the whole mood and idea of ??the composition. By the way in the music video the aftermath of the hurricane, I was talking about is visible - we had to shoot the video with the snow till the waist, and clear the filming area with a shovel, removing 2-3 meters of snow that actors could go through. The result is quite good, what do you think?

popVLTR: What are some of your proudest moments in music? Weesp: [Mi]: Like any band - we've had lots of achievements, and related interesting stories - our tours, concerts, our releases (6 music releases at the moment and 4 music videos). One of the most memorable moments was our solo concert - presentation of the album This Will Destroy Us. We decided to do a very unusual approach to selling tickets to this concert. We made the entrance completely free, and set a box for donations at the entrance - everyone entering could put as much money as he want to ... or does not put anything at all. The collected money should go to charity - to fund the orphanage. We have organized a lot of cool features - dancing cheerleaders, balloons from the ceiling, smoke, cool light on stage. Also different performances on stage with us during gig - the artist painted an art, associated with music being played (track Our Own Gale - very atmospheric one and heavy one), go-go dancers, a saxophonist who helped us to perform our track from the album This Will Destroy Us - Livan, and much more funny things. It was a legendary show. And the most interesting thing - we did not expect much from this event - but it turned out that have packed the venue fully (1000+ satisfied listeners), and not only that - we have collected quite a large sum for charity and even had back the cost of event organization. popVLTR: What cool stuff is on the horizon for Weesp? Weesp: [Lex] We are going to record an LP album at the beginning of the next year. Its gonna be our first LP work and it's gonna be better and bigger than everything we've done before. [Mi] We plan to work with a renowned platinum producer when recording it. Almost all the material is ready for the moment, only minor touches remained that would make everything perfect. At the moment, we are independent band, but we plan to cooperate with the indie labels to help us spread the upcoming release worldwide. As well we plan to shoot 3 ???? music videos on the new songs and ride for few tours - on the CIS countries and Europe. It would be nice to come to America too =)

All the way from Minsk, Belarus- Weesp is by far one of my favorite bands to listen to. It’s hard to compare this band to any other. These guys have it all. With Rock being their main ingredient, it’s unfair to only identify them as a rock band. This band has its own unique style and sound. Weesp is fresh, energetic and exciting to listen to. Commonly identified as “a great example of European music,” Weesp is on their way to become one of the most well-known bands around the world! They are a larger than life alternative rock band from Minsk..Their latest single named "Exodus", taken from their conceptual trilogy, "Exodus: Origins" has a unique interesting and futuristic sound, aided largely by the distinctive synths and effects, as well as the amazing dynamics and great range of vocals; clean and soothing to searing screaming and not to mention extremely catchy! This band is a must hear especially if you are a fan of Muse and 30 seconds to mars!
Their song, "Taste of steel" I highly recommend!..It is well structured with very clever transitions and stunning vocals!.. Its a solid, systematic and overall excellent track that keeps you guessing!!

Belorusian rock band Weesp are fresh, exciting and a great example of good European music, a few Western influences I admit but this is a great band full stop. Alternative is a great word and although this may not be the best fitting genre description I think you’ll find that Weesp when you give them a good listen are such a fuse of styles and music that you’ll just love them. The last time I heard a band with this many styles and sounds was when I first got into Faith No More, this is a totally different band but there is a lot of the same excitement here.
