Bio

Fred McKinnon grew up in a small town called McRae, Georgia. He is the youngest of four siblings and grew up in a "Christian" home with loving parents and siblings.

As a young toddler, Fred would often try playing notes and songs on the piano and he began taking piano lessons in the first grade. Fred continued taking private piano lessons through the end of high school and received a scholarship to attend Georgia Southern University. For the new 4 years, Fred worked diligently and received a Batchelor of Music from GSU, double-majoring in both Piano Performance and Theory/Composition.

Fred was surrounded by music growing up - from church choirs, handbell choirs, and musicals. His parents and siblings were all "music fans" and Fred was often taken to concerts with his family. Some of the most vivid memories of big concerts were Neil Diamond and John Denver concerts. Johnny Cash was a regular in our music at home as well.

Although Fred grew up in a Christian home, attended a Methodist church, and was "confirmed" as a young child, he responded to the call of salvation when he was 12 years old. In the mid-late 80's, "contemporary" praise and worship music was getting popular and Fred knew that he would like to use his talents in this way. Now, he owns "Highest Praise Productions" which is a company dedicated to producing worship music that will help the Body of Christ in their worship.

Currently, Fred McKinnon lives on St. Simons Island, GA with his wife, Joy, and their 3 children - Jon Michael, Will, and Rebekah. Their 4th child is due in May 2006.

Fred leads worship for Christian Renewal Church of St. Simons (www.christianrenewalssi.org) and Wesley United Methodist at Frederica (SSI).
