"View a Decaying America with Slater’s Music Video for “On Another Planet”"

In a scene where there is ample amounts of dull, repetitive acts, Slater brings a level of musicianship that is seldom heard. The artist hailing from Orange County first caught our eye after debuting the music video for his 000garrett produced track “On Another Planet,” which offers an otherworldly journey into a part of America that appears to be lost in time.

As a single guitar twangs alongside a bassline in the intro, our scene is set with a low resolution look into the golden haze of a decaying town. Strong percussion from 000garrett kicks in as Slater’s soothing, high-pitched vocals recite the hook “I’m on another planet / don’t take that shit for granted.” The viewer is met with Slater and company exploring trails, diners, and bridges, yet there is an ominous feeling present — he himself tells us, “It was a little eerie filming because there are only a handful of people who live [in that Gold Rush era town] and they are not too kind to people walking around filming.” Cars roll past, dogs play in the grass, and lover’s names are etched into wood, but a heavy feeling remains in the air.

At first glance, it might come off as a simple, self-shot music video on VHS, yet it is much more than that. Slater was able to express the exact essence of his song visually, bringing us into an entirely different world with his instrumentation and vocals. He captured the dying part of America, a town that won’t ever escape it’s dated lifestyle. So get out of your old ways, put on your new face, and step into another planet with Slater’s video down below. - UnderGroundUnderDogs

"5 Indie Artists Not Getting the Coverage They Deserve Right Now"

From piercing, high-pitched croons to murderous muttering, Nick Beaty of Slater lays down both vocal styles on synth infused hip-hop beats. With lo-fi aesthetics to die for, “Overtake” is the Orange (County) native’s first single from his new album 23 dropping soon. I dare you to not get any of his songs stuck in your head- good luck.

Reminds me of: If Kevin Parker from Tame Impala became a really good rapper.
For fans of: Yung Lean, Jaden Smith, Knox Fortune, Puzzle and other vibe-y hip-hop music. - AloneAtTheShow

"LIVE FROM THE UNDERGROUND: Slater"

24 year old singer, songwriter and producer Slater just released his 2nd full length album Flight 777. Following the release of the project he’s headed on a U.S. tour. I caught up with Slater about Yung Lean and Yung Thug influences, combining hip-hop with indie, and balancing college life with a music career. - PrettyAwesomeLitMusic (PALM)

"Slater's ESI CD Release"

Nichlaus Beaty, better known as California's underground pop sensation, SLATER, is a rising American singer, rapper, and songwriter, as well as a member of the musical group, Vada Vada. SLATER first gained popularity in 2013 as a member of the notorious and influential Southern California collective, Vada Vada (consisting of The Garden, Enjoy, and Puzzle). With a lofi music background, SLATER collages alternative, pop, and hip hop with elements of electronic music into a new, niche sound that is infectious, groovy, and smooth. With a nod to early 00’s radio hits, SLATER’s sound is fresh and innovative. His upbeat, catchy music delivers messages of light, positivity, and the reminder to remain true to yourself. - Cult Love Tapes
