"Ainjo Unveils New Single ‘Drug’"

San Diego-based R&B artist Ainjo has just unveiled her brand new single Drug, the first single taken from her debut EP, 555, out now.

When I think about R&B this is what I envision: a smooth, sensual beat with sultry vocals and angelic melodies. I am loving that bass and emotive piano keys! Her velvety vocals are quite captivating and fit perfectly with the lovely vocals of Amanda Adams, another emerging R&B vocalist. Drug talks about two girlfriends discovering and discussing their new love affairs among each other, and you can check it out below! - Caesar Live n Loud

Bio

She’s a modern-day Hannah Montana tale if Hannah Montana were a rising R&B artist also doubled as a U.S. Navy sailor. Ainjo born Angelisha Joseph is a 23-year-old singer/songwriter based out of San Diego who's scaled notoriously by singing on social media.

Born and raised in Miami to a Haitian family, Ainjo, like many others each year, found herself enlisting in the military at the age of 18. She would leave home for the first time and transfer to California, the place where she was destined to find herself and her voice. The name “Ainjo” was coined by a fellow sailor, a mix between her first and her last name. While enlisted Ainjo began to explore her vocal and musical abilities by singing covers and posting them on social media. After an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from new supporters, she felt empowered enough to create her own music. Ainjo says, “I was inspired because other people kept encouraging me and believing in me.” Ainjo took that jolt of inspiration and combined it with an intense desire to help her family.

After leaving Florida, Ainjo recalls the immense financial blowback it had on her family unit. There was a particular conversation she had with her mother, she says "I was on the phone with my mom and she was telling me how she was just getting off from work and was about to go to her next job, and when she left the second she was going directly to her third, and that just broke me. I said to myself I can't allow my mother to go through this."

Ainjo made her decision to really start investing in her music, all while continuing her duty as a Navy Sailor and even picking up additional jobs such as housekeeping to help her invest in her passion. After months Ainjo began creating and releasing original music. She released her first song titled "Cash Flaws" in October 2017 where she narrates her personal story of going through a financial crisis and its effects on her mental health.
After great feedback through online streaming platforms, she began to release more singles, all gaining her more recognition and opportunities such as performing at The Belmont during SXSW and the East Coast Musical Conference.

All of the growing support has currently positioned Ainjo to her current point, debuting her first project titled “555” which is a five-track set EP that offers a sultry mix of neo-soul and sultry R&B. Always drawing from her own experiences Ainjo says the EP is “all of my feelings, emotions, everything I go packed in five songs”. The title of 555 is drawn from Ainjo’s connection with the number’s spiritual meaning. In numerology, the recurrence of 555 tells of “significant and necessary changes happening in your life that have been divinely inspired and guided” and for Ainjo, this EP represents just that.
