Bio
Formed in 1979, The Alferd Packer Memorial String Band has toured the middle of America, with underwriting from The Kansas Arts Commission (now defunct) and the Mid-America Arts Alliance. The band has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning with Bill Geist, and was the focus of articles in the Wall Street Journal, Readers' Digest and the New York Times. In addition its music has been used in a national broadcast on NPR. Most recently it was featured in a documentary called "Overlooked" which aired on KTKA-TV, an ABC affiliate. Contributions to the community include performances in schools throughout Kansas, a 25 year long tradition of an annual party at the Post Office on April 15 to celebrate Tax Night, presented free and open to the public in Lawrence, Kansas, plus numerous appearances at community arts events, and from local fairs to State Fairs. The individual members over the years have collected many awards for artistic achievements in a variety of fields including photography, music, songwriting and sculpture.
