"Alright Alright Can't Stop Breaking Up – Until Now"

Local piano-based Americana trio Alright Alright is a mass of contradictions. On one hand, singer/pianist China Kent and guitarist Seth Kent are married parents, as close as people can be. They met when Seth helped China carry her piano into a gig, and that gallantry eventually earned him a wife. When they talk, their words bounce off of each other, but they never interrupt each other. They’re a perfect match.

On the other hand, they’re almost polar opposites in musical terms. China is a classically trained pianist and a self-proclaimed perfectionist. Seth learned to play guitar on a beach in Hawaii, and he’s apt to let the little things go to retain the flow. As a result, the lovebirds have occasionally pissed each other off and torpedoed the band. The pair is currently embarking on a third attempt to make Alright Alright work (with Katelin Champion on drums).

Bio

China
China Curtiss displayed an uncanny knack for melody at an early age. At 18 months, she began whistling before she could speak in full sentences, and by the time she was 7, she was writing her own piano compositions. After a two-year stint at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music, China ventured out on her own, traveling the world with Youth With A Mission. She finally landed in Denver, CO in 2000, and began teaching music and theater, recording her first album under the production assistance of Isaac Slade. After meeting and marrying her soulmate and musical accomplice, Seth Kent, the couple traveled to England to join Nathan Johnson in the composition and recording for the now cult classic, BRICK. In 2005, the couple moved to Boston to join The Cinematic Underground for a grassroots promotion and national tour of the stage show Annasthesia. While in Boston she acquired a composition gig with director Mark Woollen for his roller-derby documentary, Jam. China was an assistant music supervisor and pianist for the film, The Brothers Bloom. She has played on myriad albums and has moonlighted with the likes of Elin Palmer, Tom Hagerman and Mishkah. China lives in Denver with Seth, her two children, Fender and Harper, and her devoted springer spaniel T-Bow.

Seth
Born in Florida and raised as a missionary kid, Seth has seen the world and loved nearly all of it. During these travels both a love of making music and a habit of collecting eclectic stringed instruments formed. He is a multi instrumentalist with a particular bent toward the unique, a song writer, and singer as well as a recording engineer. He is also a licensed pilot, has made beer, was once a trash man, built custom log homes, builds guitars out of cigar boxes, juggles and has run a diesel bus on veggie oil.
