Description

Hello, my name is Anthony K. Jackson, a.k.a. Red. I was born in a small house which my parents rented behind the now defunct famous Blue Bird Cafe in Como Texas . I started out playing pots and pans at the age 1 in my grandmothers kitchen. At the age of 12, I played the French horn at Handley Middle School . At Polytechnic High School , Band Director - Ernest Moody, I played drums from 1975 1979. During 1977 - 1979, I took drum lessons from George Strandberg. At age 16, I played my first professional gig at a little hole in the wall off of Riverside Dr. , Fort Worth with Ricky Rigsby, bass guitarist. At the age of 17, I was offered a recording contract to play drums at a recording studio in California . At age 18, I studied music theory and Classical Piano at Texas Wesleyan University 1979 for one semester and percussion,drums and classical keyboard,Studio Band  at Tarrant County Junior College for two years,Liberty Universtiy 2012. I am a writer, arranger, and musician: drums, percussionist, and keyboardist. Also, I am currently an affiliated writer with BMI.


History

I have played locally in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and internationally with artists such as Darrell Wilson, General M. Hambrick & Joyful Noise Choral Ensemble with Chuck Smith on bass guitar, and Henry Smith pianist; Dr. Vernard Johnson, gospel saxophonist, 1982- 1995 with Alvin Polk keyboardist, Chuck Smith bass guitarist; I was a musician with Strangers Rest Baptist Church, Fort Worth Texas 1979 1991 and with Sister Murray,Charlene Tisdale,Kirk Franklin and the Strangers Rest Baptist Church choir 1988-1992; James Clay, Michelle Fisher,Mark Sample And The Living Lights, Rachella Parks Washington, Ernest Colvin, Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth, James Clay, Thomas Reese, Marion Williams, Dave Elmon, Douglas Miller, Sherry Fontaine, Marshall Ivory, Dannybell Hall, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Mary Jackson, Tocar with Renee Rollins,Dennis Jernigan, studio session recordings, live concerts, CD Debut Concerts, and background music for Cable Music, Television and Specials. Altim Production Studio 1981 - 1996, Eagle Audio Studio, Omega Audio Studio, and have received the National Baptist Convention of America Music Awards 1983, N.Y. Music Revival, Feb.1988 - Washington Square Church. Feature Article in Spin Magazine and N.Y. Times Feb 1988. Montreal Canada International Jazz Festival July 1988. Proclaim International Greater Europe Missions Outreach in 1997. I also performed in countries such as Rio de Janeiro Brazil , France , Spain , and parts of the United States of America . I was a percussionist at Patrick McGuire Studio1998 2000. Musician with Harvest Baptist Church , Watauga Texas in 2000 - 2002. I was a Mission Outreach musician during USA Winter Olympics Spain 2005 and Utah , USA 2002. Katrina Relief Concert fundraiser Oct 2005, Wedgwood Baptist Church Youth Choir Tour June 2006, Jazzitude "Celebrating the Arts" - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority- Honoring Fort Worth Independent School District Band Directors & Jazz legends, Chairwoman Charlene Ayers, Guests Movie Star Irma P. Hall, Avant-Garde Jazz Drummer Ronald Shannon Jackson, and Fort Worth H.S. Music Directors , Nov 2006 at the Fort Worth Club with Josef Bobula bass guitar, Rickey Rigsby bass guitar, Thomas Guerin percussionist, Lawrence Robinson trumpet, Duane Washington alto/tenor saxophonist, and O.D.
