Bio

Initially a two-man band rooted along the banks of the Rio Grande, brothers Sergio and Adrian Romanos formed Automatic Weekend with nothing more their equipment and desire to make music. Drawing on influences such as Junior Kimbrough and Lightning Hopkins, their music was steeped in the blues. After relocating to Austin by way of Laredo, the group added Fernando Gutierrez on guitar/vocals and Mark Martinez on bass to further develop their sound. The new members were able to incorporate the music they grew up listening to on the border into the bands new sound. Genres ranging from Country, Tejano, Conjunto, and Soul began to emerge in each song they wrote.

Soon after, the band wrote, recorded and self-produced their debut album, Hermanos. Mastered by Sam Patlove at Fresh Up Studios, the album scratched the surface of what was yet to come. Building off of the success of Hermanos, they enlisted the help of acclaimed musician and producer Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas, Brownout) to record their self-titled second album in 2016. Over the course of just three days at Quesada's studio, Level One Sound, the group emerged with their grittiest, bluesiest effort to date.

Currently, the group is busy writing material for their yet untitled third album.  The songs so far lean heavily into their roots growing up in Laredo and the trials and tribulations of the infamous border town.

The band actively plays in the Austin area and has shared the stage with various artists including Brownout, Bright Light Social Hour, Spanish Gold, Jeff The Brotherhood, The Cuckoos and Wurve.
