The best kept secret in music

"Every once in a while, out of the stacks of talent that I come across in this Big Apple, some new spark surfaces to remind me of the importance of doing what I do. That most recent spark ... comes in the form of a band called 11:56...It's a blend of rough distorted guitars, Tibetan singing bowls, Tabla drums and killer vocals."
- John Peet - Artlink Magazine
"...bass man Buddy Booker, whose power is not a mere matter of amplification; it's the place he comes from."
- Cat Ballou - Woodstock Times

Bio
11:56 is the brainchild of vocalist/songwriter, Stephanie Chaiken, whose various performance background ranges from theater and cabaret and children's theater to rock and roll. Add bassist Buddy Booker, drummer Matt Hathaway, guitarist Michael Pestalozzi and phenomenon, Joseph Cunliffe, to this stew (who on their own have resumes of performing with the likes of Phyllis Hyman, Dougie Fresh, Marshall Crenshaw, Don Was, Herbie Hancock, Larry Coryell, and for former Vice President Al Gore) and you cook up a magical "happening" that fuses hard edged alternative guitars with souring melodies and instruments from around the world. In 11:56, some of the many world instruments Cunliffe plays are: Native American flutes, South American Quena, Tibetan singing bowls, Bodran, Pakistani hand drum, pennywhistles, concert flutes, recorder and saxophones.
