"Profile: 12 Dirty Bullets"

Formed back in 2007, London-based 12 Dirty Bullets consist of brothers Jamie and Josh Jamieson, Michael smith on lead guitar and drummer, Joe Cotterill. They burst onto the scene with their blend of alternative indy-rock, managing to get themselves noticed in an over-saturated market.

Their rough-edge vocals, straight-up lyrics and authoritative guitar riffs soon made them one of London's most exciting bands. So much so, the BBC dubbed them a "fiery, young, energetic, swaggering West London band", and they've already seen successes across the pond via their self-made indie label, Fatman Records.

A talented, determined and motivated bunch, 12 Dirty Bullets write all their own songs and produce and mix the tracks. Their debut album, Downsides To Making A Living, was released in 2009 and features a total of eleven tracks. Having just completed a huge U.S. tour, the band are back with their latest release, single Motown, which was released both in the Uk and the U.S.
12 Dirty Bullets have similarities with other British indie bands such as the edgier style of Hard-Fi and the nonchalant but slight arrogant attitude of The Libertines. They cite the likes of Oasis, Kings Of Leon, The Cribs, Radiohead as strong influences, as well as older classics such as The Cure, The Jam, The Stone Roses and The Smiths.

All these are evident in their delivery and production, as well as their songwriting which is genuine and honest. Arctic Monkeys-esque elements occasionally appear in the music, emphasising the band's tongue and cheek style and lyrical wit, which of course, can only be a good thing, but although influenced by so many, they have created something fresh and exciting.

"12 Dirty Bullets"

It's the first time we have had this lot up, and we can not wait! Just look at what some people have said about them:

"I have been struggling to find any bands to get excited about recently but thanks to a friend I found 12 Dirty Bullets (somewhat late, admittedly). They make a welcome change for me from the vast number of bands I am constantly pulling my face at and blowing raspberrys to."

Battery In Your Leg

"Hard-Fi have been quiet of late so there's definitely space for a new energetic, swaggering West London band primed to tear up the British indie scene. While the Staines crew incorporated punk and dub into their punchy repertoire, 12 Dirty Bullets are often content to hang their songs around a classic no-frills sound of the kind gilded by The Libertines. Here on 12's debut album Downsides To Making A Living this approach mostly works, too."

BBC Music

"Combining melodic indie riffs with an enticing range of social commentary, the West London lads are steadily impressing folk throughout the country.... As 12 Dirty Bullets power through their current, relentless tour, you’d be a fool not to consider popping down to a gig. They’re tighter that tight, take my word for it."

Beat Surrender

"We're going to be blunt: 12 Dirty Bullets are that damned good. This London crew could very well be the next, more narratively inclined coming of the Arctic Monkeys."

"I've Loaded My Gun with 12 Dirty Bullets"

This up and coming four piece band are setting stages alight wherever they go, with their hauntingly truthful lyrics and upbeat yet melancholic riffs. Jamie, Josh, Joe and Michael aka 12 Dirty Bullets have been working together for a long time, and just recently spent their summer touring across America. They performed in over 40 states, and have also toured in some European countries such as France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. These Londoners have the determination of any person who is truly committed and passionate about what they do. While writing music, lyrics, having band practice and gigging. They managed to hold down day jobs whenever they could. If you think that’s impressive, they even went as far as releasing their first album independently back in May 2009 through their own label Fattman Records.

12 Dirty Bullets have even been mentioned by the BBC and the National press in France, and with just under 1000 followers on Twitter they are doing remarkably well. However I feel they aren’t getting as much recognition as they deserve for all the effort they have been putting in. Success will definitely be heading their way in the near future, because they have perseverance which is something so many talented musicians lack. They are currently touring the UK, with a large number of upcoming shows. Their final gig of the tour will be at KOKO in Camden on the 16h December, which is a guaranteed good night as its Camden Town, the place of music. However if you are unable to attend - Unsigned Magazine

"12 Dirty Bullets"

Two weeks ago, I’d never heard of 12 dirty bullets but now they are all I seem to be listening to. Their sound varies in each of their songs; from indie and power pop to rock. The band consists of: Jamie Jamieson (vocals/guitar), Michael Smith (lead guitarist), Josh Jamieson (bass/vox) and Joe Cotterill (drums). They really are just four normal guys, doing what they do best, whilst still holding down day jobs to make ends meet. Originally from West London, the boys have seen plenty of the world this year touring the UK, America and Europe and ending their year with a celebratory home coming headline show at Koko in Camden.

On the road through 2011, the band has mixed live favourites,

old and new, from their current album The Downside of Making a Living along with their new songs. The first single from the next album, ‘Motown’, recently debuted on the American Radio Industry Charts and was hailed as “One of the finest examples of a band enjoying success despite remaining staunchly independent” by The Beat Surrender. 12 Dirty Bullets operate through their self-made independent label Fatman Records. Acclaimed as a “fiery, young, energetic, swaggering West London band” by the BBC, 12 Dirty Bullets have put everything into what they do. They write, compose and mix everything themselves all in the pursuit of music. They are a well and truly passionate and dedicated band that will do everything they can, to do what they love forever.

Bio

12 Dirty Bullets are a young, 4 piece band from West London who are currently taking the UK, Europe and also the USA by storm. They have picked up an award on the way and just completed their much awaited Motown In Your Town tour, which brought them to the O2 Academy Liverpool, for the first time ever.

Both punchy and poetic, this Indie-rock band out of London, England lays down three-guitar harmony similar to one of their first influencers, the Beatles. Their catchy tracks and warming vocals are instantly likeable and their polished sound has put them streets ahead of many similarly influenced bands.

They are a musically tight group, consisting of accomplished musicians who are more than capable of garnering further positive attention, the 12 Dirty Bullets are led by band founder Jamie Jamieson on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards; Michael Smith on lead guitar and vocals, Josh Jamieson on bass guitar and vocals and Joe Cotterill on drums.

With their critically acclaimed debut album under their belt (Downsides to Making a Living), a series of high profile shows and an evident ability to write powerful songs, these London lads are making a name for themselves on both sides of the Atlantic.

They're "tighter than tight", and as good as their recorded songs are, seeing them blast out their music live on stage will make you a fan.

From the get go, 12 Dirty Bullets commands the stage. With guitar riffs and drum beats booming across the room, they immediately have the crowd enthralled and bouncing along with them. With songs like, "Fat Man" a catchy rock number with witty lyrics and "Champagne and Cocaine" a very early Arctic Monkeys influenced track and a highly energetic performance throughout, especially from the drummer, Joe Cotterill, they are getting a huge fan base and winning respect throughout the music industry.

They are completing their second album to be released this fall.

And as so many ask, where does the band's name come from? Jamie and Michael will talk about how much their lyrics have real-world messages and it starts with the band's name, 12 Dirty Bullets . . . makes you think.

12 Dirty Bullets is making a statement with both their music and their powerful lyrics, catching fire in 2012.
